Wow. This hazy copper-brown beer has a big head. The crazy-complex old fruit aroma has a slightly vegetal aspect as it warms. There’s a bit of horse blanket and tobacco (actually old tobacco barn if you’ve ever been in one) hanging underneath. The flavor is all of that plus the slight sourness make for one truly interesting beer that could fully pass as a true product of Belgium instead of one from the home of the University of Georgia. Even the judges of the Georgia Craft Brew Challenge said that this beer would have won Best of Show had it been entered under the right category. The brewer intended it to be an Old Bruin, but the beer accidently was entered by clerical staff at the bar as a Belgian dark strong, which isn’t supposed to be sour. Sadly, this misclassification knocked it from contention despite the raves it received.
