Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Nov. 2015: Shared 650 ml bottle, 2014 vintage, at local tasting. Black colour, huge tan head. Aroma of coffee, roast malts and pecan pie (of course), only a faint hint of bourbon. The medium dry taste has a stronger presence of bourbon, also pecan nuts and coffee. Very moderate hops.

"WOW ! This beer is so black a light can't shine through it. It's a crying shame this is only a seasonal beer. Clown Shoes needs to brew this as a year round product. I have to drive a 100 mile round trip just to buy this product. And have gladly made the trip three times.

Black in the glass with dark brownish edges, creamy tan foam on the top. Spotty lacing in the glass, creamy surface texture.Dry chocolatey aroma with no hints of pecan.Flavors of roasty bitter black malts, a touch of lactose, slight pecan bitterness. Pretty dry, bitter, and astringent... Not at all sweet or reminiscent of pecan pie. Still it has a creamy feel and is a ok porter on its own. Probably wouldn't pick it up again, but it wasn't bad, but kinda tough.

Pours a jet black with no head to think of. Not much carbonation but it is so black I can not tell if it is or not. Aroma is very roasted with a lot of coffee and black chocolate. Taste is very much of coffee and chocolate with a black chocolate bitter ending. This is a fairly thick beer and is fairly smooth going down. I don't taste the pecan pie. I actually do like this beer for what it is but is a tad bland to put on my short list.

Wish list item bottled in October. Nothin wrong with it but not nearly as good as I'd hoped. A decent chocolaty roasted porter with an additional unidentifiable sweetness that I can also guess was pecan. Didn't leave much of an impression.

Smoky aroma has notes of caramel, malt - and yes, pecan. Pours a rich, warm sable with a thick and persistent light tan head. Rich flavor fills the mouth with brown sugar, caramel, pecan and malt notes plus hints of chocolate and roast quality coffee. May be a whisper of licorice in there, too. Fairly sweet, but not too much. Smooth, firm texture has a good amount of fizz and very nice body. A nutty conquest indeed!
