The humble gherkin. Usually we encounter this unassuming green fruit pickled or sliced and flung atop a salad. But the cucumber has so much more to offer us. It is a remarkably refreshing gourd with the power to cool a dry tongue and when just two sliced wheels are placed atop the eyes of a lounging lass in a stock photo ad for a spa the mythical cucumber has the magical ability to justify obscene spa service fees. Truly an amazing botanical gift to the world. We chose to employ the cucumber in a low gravity Saison to create a refreshing seasonal ale redolent with notes of honey, tropical fruit, lemon bitterness, and of course cucumbers. Brewed as a survival tool for the Florida Summer this cucumber creation features Citra and Sorachi Ace hops. So put some cucumber wheels on your eyes, lean back, relax and enjoy. Ahhhhhhh.

750mL bottle courtesy of markwise pours a fairly deep gold with a bit of haze and fluffy near white head. Man oh man, the aroma is straight up freshly sliced cold cucumber. I can smell the skin and the seeds and the anticipation of what is this going to taste like. Well it tastes just about the same. It is like chomping on freshly cut slices of cold cucumber, that’s right not room temp or warm cucumber but cold cucumber. Behind all the cucumber notes are mild levels of nearly punchy saison yeasty spices and a sense of vague sweetness off in the background. So, I’ve never had a beer that is anywhere close to this in aroma or flavor so there’s certainly additional merit in that.

This is interesting. You can really taste the cucumber here. At first is a little strong flavor/semi-bitter, but after the beer washes through, the sweetness from the cucumber juice is more noticeable. Bubbly like most saisons I tried. Well balanced....smooth. Pretty light on alchohol, only 5%, so easy to drink the whole bottle solo. I would want to try this again, preferably split with a friend....but pretty pricey.

Preface: I don't really like cucumbers. Shared this bottle at a mini-tasting (4 others + me). Golden pour, short-lived white head, some lacing. Strong fresh cut cucumber aroma, like a salad, some yeasts and a slight honey nose as well, floral hops. Taste: fresh cut cucumber, very light sweet honeysuckle, hint of yeasts and funk. A cucumber salad in a glass. Not my favorite but glad I at least tried it.
