After a couple of years in operation, making our two flagship ales, we started to hear: “Brewery guys, these ales are tasty, but when are you going to give us a good old lager beer at a good old lager price?!” In May 2000, we caved in to peer pressure and created our own chemical-free alternative to the big brand lagers. We said it was “Crisp and clean, pure and natural” – everything you want in a lager. Light and effervescent, without that nasty chemical tang, Chilkoot Lager goes down pretty smooth and easy. As one of our best selling beers, Chilkoot lives up to what we hoped it would be, a perfect alternative to mainstream beers and the best place to start trying craft beer. The name Chilkoot harkens back to the Gold Rush days when stampeders hiked the world famous Chilkoot Trail from Skagway, Alaska and down into the Yukon eventually hitting the lakes and rivers that become the Yukon River. This was by far the most travelled route to the Klondike gold fields of Dawson City – the territory owes its existence in part to the historic gold claim and it was a logical name for our first lager.

Clean motor oil is the look of this beer, if you held a pint of this up against a pint of clean motor oil the only way you could tell the difference is by the big rocky beige head on it that goes away fast, except for a lingering skiff of bubbles formed by constant carbonation coming from the bottom of the glass. Lots of hops in the aroma, caramel, and banana good strong smell but not offensive, grapefruit and something that reminds me of peanuts mixed feet make up the rest of this deliciously complex smell. Wow this taste totally reminds me of a peanut butter banana sandwich, very clean hop presence but not so much it misses the style, amazing taste. Wow so malty, so good, the after taste is a creamy honey, and beer had a great medium body with good carbonation. For a lager this was amazing, very drinkable and refreshing, and for the relatively cheap price you get a awesome quality beer the you can chug back with out sacrificing quality or taste. Yukon is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

***Re-review on next purchace*** I've had this beer a ton of times and it once was on my rotation of beers purchaced. There may have been something wrong with my bottle, or it could've been old, or they've lost the quality at which this used to be brewed. Pale yellow beer, big white rocky head foamed up quickly and disappeard just as quick. No lacing, only a ring of foam. Weak on colour. Lots of aromas to pick from, but it's just very appealing to me today. Sweet, dry, pinapple, honey??. A strong sweet cirtus aroma hangs around. Not how it should smell, but interesting. It's refreshing, but tastes wrong. Tastes cheap, weak, thin with an odd sour bitterness...corn too? Mouthfeel is plain with a decent ammount of carbs. Something has gone wrong here, so more bottles are in order, because this should be a quality lager.

The colour is a pale straw, honey colored. If you hold it up to the light there could be some peach colored to it as well. The head is nice and full, creamy white, and leaves nice lacing. I found the aroma very unique. There is a sweet floral, fruity smell - a mix of berry and honey. Very distinct, love the smell. The taste again is lightly fruity well balanced with the malts. There is a slightly dry aftertaste with a touch of hops to finish. The mouthfeel is creamy smooth and leaves a nice crispness on the tongue.
