Capital's Island Wheat Ale is classified as an American Wheat Ale style brew. Island Wheat captures all of the classical elements of this style, while adding its own twist to the mix. Wheat used in this brew is grown on Wisconsin's own Washington Island (off the tip of famous Door County). Lake Michigan creates a maritime climate on the Island, giving the wheat crop very unique characteristics that carry through to the personality of the beer. When you enjoy your first Island Wheat, you will notice that it has a hazy, golden hue and a dense, rocky head. This beer is one of those rare brews that a wide variety of beer drinkers will enjoy. Those that find lighter beer appealing will find the refreshing mildness to their liking. While those that enjoy a more robust brew will find the complexity of the wheats used more than satisfying.

This is a very tasty, very smooth wheat brew. I was really impressed by both the taste and mouth feel. I left a nice follow-up taste as well. It is certainly in my list of best wheat beers!

Bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of wheat, light straw and a hint of earthiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of wheat, bread and a hint of earthiness with a smooth dry finish.

Sampled on 1/29/2011. This wheat beer pours a light straw gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is cereal and grain, fruity and sweet, with a touch of citrus. A medium to light bodied American Wheat beer. The malts are cereal and grain with some citrus. The hops are slightly spicy. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. Clean and crisp. Slightly sweet and citrusy. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

i really didn't taste anything to give me the impression of uniqueness or added complexity to the wheat here. i actually thought it was a bit underwhelming and under average for the style, in that non-ofensive kind of way. oh well...

Courtesy of Phishpond. Pours a very pale yellow with a thin head and some lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of sweet wet wheat, malts and a slight corn syrup. Taste is a little thin with a good sweet wheat and smoothness.

I haven't had one of these since last summer, but now that the weather's warming up around here, it's time for another. I remember being disappointed upon first try, but here goes. VERY pale, almost anemic, pasty body; Get this beer a transfusion! Foamy pure white head with some lacing. Mild bready aroma; not much else. Flavor is definitely mild as well, with a soft but crisp texture sliding into flavors of wheat and, well, more wheat I guess. Some sharpness in the finish, but overall just a bland thirst-quencher. With all the hype when this first was released about the "Washington Island" wheat, and the redesigned label, etc, I expected more from Capital when I first tried it and I expect more now.

On draught at Serb Hall in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago. Light, pale gold with a full and lasting white head that laced nicely. Aroma was very faint, with slight hints of yeast and malt, but lacking the fruit and spice of better wheats. Light bodied, with subtle carbonation. Flavor was sweetish, malty, with light yellow fruit notes, and a touch of hops. Crisp and refreshing, but not complex.

"I like a good Weissbier because if their done right, I get that sweetness that I love. This one kind of resembled Fruit Loops cereal. Not a bad brew though."

Great tasting, and to say it is wheaty would be an understandment. Pours a cloudy golden colour with a large white top. Pleasent aroma, lots of vibrant fruit character- licorice, pear and lemon. Mediumbodied, taste is semi sweet, astringent and delightful all the way through.

I am a lover of Capital Brewery beers, so I was excited about their Island Wheat, espically since I live not too far from Door Co. which is where they get the winter wheat for this beer. I have edited this review because my first review of this beer was from tasting it in bottles. There it lacks a lot, but mostly the flavor gets kind of flat and a bit bitter. However I have since given the beer a chance on tap and wow its a world of difference. It has a even balanced flavor and aroma on tap. Great nose and even across the palate when tasted. Smooth wheat flavor and clean finish. It was a hot day and this beer was pretty good on tap for taking care of that day long thirst. In bottles I would hesitate on buying it but when out and see it on tap, I would definetly have it again.
