First let me state that Munich Helles is one of my favorite styles...I thrive on it...it must be noted this style’s development was undertaken by brewers who were also pioneers in malting...understandably the style showcases subtle artisan malting and layered light malt blending and bread and honey tastes from malt sugars made by double decocted mash...this charcater of subtle malt-forward showcasing with effective but suble tastey ( not bitter) hop balance, defines the style --> --> 650ml bomber fresh from the brewery thanks to Jason... --> --> --> Pour gives a lightly clouded pale gold lager with a nice frothy 2 finger cap which lasts and laces well. --> --> --> Moderate carbonation ---> --> --> Aromas of both robust biscuit and sweet caramel pale malts with light herbal tones from hallertau hopping and light acid tones from the lager yeast.... --> --> --> Sturdy pale Munich malt spine. Medium-light bodied. Soft carbonate mouth feel. Mellow refreshing character..... --> --> --> --> Starts with the malts exposed to give a full biscuity-bready taste that is then balanced off with enough Nobel hops to give a light cider-lemmony-herbal decernment without overpowering the subtle artisan malting . Finish is clean with a slightly more pronounced bready-cider tang and then a lingering bready and light bittering after taste....subtle, tastey malt blending, artisan use of hops, soft mouth feel and great drinkability...all the elements of an authentic Munich helles are there. --> --> --> --> This is a GREAT helles! Probably the best domestic helles I have tasted and certainly better than pasturized bottled Hacker-Pschorr. If Commercial Canadian brewers and drinkers who have forgotten what a lager tastes like...this is it!
