2009. Interesting. Starts out almost sour, but quickly becomes sweet. Warming. Light fruit notes of pear and apple along with oak. Does a nice little dance on your tongue. Having said all that, the price was ridiculous, and I have to use Westvleteran as a comparison when I say...OVERPRICED.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty yellow color ale with loads of sediment and a large pure white head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet Belgian malt with notes of light toffee and some dry astringent oak. Taste is quite complex with some sweet apples notes, some sweet Belgian malt, light warming alcohol dry astringent oak. Very complex but still enjoyable and quite easily drinkable. Body is full with limited filtration and great carbonation with minimal alcohol. Very well done but not sure I would have this very often considering the price tag.

750 ml "champagne" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate head. Lovely vinous aroma with notes of oak, fruit and berries. The flavour is also pleasantly oaky and fruity, with a "refreshing" touch which is quite astonishing for a 13% ABV beer. Well, you get an idea that this is a strong beer, but not as strong as it actually is. It is not too sweet, and the aftertaste is moderately spicy. A great beer!

Orange colour, low disappearing head. Complex aroma of oranges, cognac, cherries, pine needles, alcohol and wood. Flavour of oranges, wood, marmalade, wood and alcohol. Thick mouthfeel. Long sweet aftertaste of honey, alcohol and wood.

Busted this out at Najas Place in Redondo Beach for my birthday treat to myself. Originally priced at $60, got $10 off for my b-day. Nice hazy auburn colored brew with a good sized head. Aroma of fruity malts and a bit of alcohol. Mouthfeel was full and rounded - almost chewy. Flavor was of peaches and apricots with a very nice malt backing. Alcohol was warming but not overpowering for 13%. Very good beer -> yes. Worth the cash -> no. But hey, it was my b-day.

Hazy amber colour, big foamy/creamy head. Aroma is toffee, alcohol, oak and overall quite woody sweetness. Flavour is very much the same along with raisins and grapes. Totally awesome thing.

Tasted at the 2006 Pizza Port Belgian Fest. This Belgian Strong Ale poured a hazy amber color from a 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty, fruity and sweet. There is some wood here as well. A full-bodied Belgian Strong Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Bright yeasts. Lively carbonation. Woody flavors. The malt flavors are thick and chewy, nearly tongue coasting, and yet are very smooth. Nice balance between the malts, fruit and wood. Hides the alcohol very well. Nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet.

I think if you put this and Scaldis Noel side by side, I couldn't tell the difference. Although there were lots of things present in the aroma (raisins, spices, fruits, namely citrus and apples, rum and brown sugar) it is dominated by alcolol, but expectedly so for a 13% brew. Pours beautifully, with a huge off-white rocky head that is everlasting. Nice mouthfeel, just a tad chewy and sweet. Flavor matches the aroma to me, with alcohol being the predominant one. Too bad, there are tons of complexities present. The alcohol just isn't very well hidden. I suspect that if this brew was given a year or so to age, it might get some much higher scores from me.

Thank you eagle for this one. Poured a hazy copper color with small head. Aroma was of light fruits, appleas pears yeast. Flavor was the same but the alcohol was a little sharp, maybe needed some aging.
