Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

A lively clear amber beer with a medium beige foam collar on top. Has an occidant fruity sweet aroma at first, but as it warms up the aroma becomes dominated by malt and dried fruit. Feels a bit acidic, but has a full body. It's flavor is fruity, occidant and slight bitter. The aftertaste is hoppy bitter and it leaves behind a sweet layer.

25 cl bottle, under its alias "Scaldis" Caractère, bought at Selfridge’s, London. Amber colour, large and fluffy lingering head. Vinous dry sherry-like aroma, elements of oak and leather too. Flavour is again sherry-like, medium dry (or medium sweet, if you like), loads and loads of oak, hints of German "Weinbrand", warming mouthfeel as expected from a 12% ABV beer, but the beer doesn’t feel inappropriately alcoholic. A substantial hoppy bitterness in the finish balances the sweetness nicely. Plays in the Premier League of beers, this one.

From the LCBO, Scaldis Ambree. 11.8 abv. Amber colour pour with a non existent head or lace. Sweet aroma of candy sugar, caramel, fruit and rust. Throw in some banana, apple, pear and alcohol and you have the flavour. Medium sticky mouthfeel. This beer has many flavours but it doesn't make it good.

bottle - puts a cloudy ale in my glass with lots of lees - cap is small and no retention. Aroma is very slight some sweet malt tones and some funk. not much going on in the flavour (for a Belgian ale) some malt some ho but mostly sweet.....finish is ugly - a combo o sugar and fusel alcohol - this is Belgium meets corporate brewing - won't buy another.

Labeled as Scaldis: Everytime I try a qualify Belgian, I realize that this is the best country for beer! Can't wait to go there. Not one of the best Belgian's that I tried, but got these for 1/2 price so worth the samples for sure. Size is perfect for one sitting....given the 12%. I would like to say the alcohol is hidden, but this one has that bite. Not too bad though, seems right about the percentage and the heaviness of the malts and fruits balances it out. On the sweeter side in flavor. Reminds me of a barleywine, but a little heavier with some tart fruit. Appearance is a dark orange-medium brown. Something I am willing to try again.

Bottled (had it as Triple Fermenteé). Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is bready malts, some alcholic sweetness, wood and some slight hints of nuts and yeast. As it warms up the alcohol gets more stinging. Flavour is caramel malts, some fruity notes, yeast and some glueish notes. Turns into raisins in aftertaste. Almost too sweet for my taste. Wellbalanced though.
