KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.

Nov. 2016: Shared 500 ml bottle at local tasting. Black colour, large beige head. Very malty aroma, mild roasty notes, hints of liquorice. Roasty flavour with malts, caramel, coffee and liquorice. Dry finish with ashy notes.

Pours a deep brown colour with copper-ruby highlights. The head is quite big for such a high level of alcohol. Brown-beige coloured, frothy, almost creamy, like a latte, with good retention and some patches of lace. Lots of dark fruits in the nose with dates, raisins. Mild nuttiness with the roasted malt base. The taste has these darker fruits with the roasted malts and a nice finish of coffee, molasses and nuts. A decent dryness as well with the hops. All is nicely balanced and easy to drink.

The beer pours a coca-cola brownish-black with almost no head, save for a thin dark brown film of bubbles. The aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and alcohol. The alcohol was very noticeable. The mouthfeel was medium to full-bodied, but carbonation was well below average, almost no carbonation in this bottle. The flavour was sweet milk chocolate, bitter coffee, and roasted malt. Despite the dating on the bottle, this seemed like an 'old' beer based oin the lack of carbonation and real flavours, but based on this bottle, this beer was a letdown
