Scottish Oatmeal Stout takes on the image Robert Younger, founder of Younger's Brewery in Edinburgh and great grandfather of the founder of Broughton brewery. Oats are used in the brewing of Scottish Oatmeal Stout to enhance the flavour of the black malt and roasted barley which give this traditional beer its rich dark colour and strong, complex roasted malt aroma and flavour, reminiscent of coffee and chocolate. These flavours are offset by a good hop bitterness and silky aftertaste. This rich, full bodied stout is a beer that Robert Younger would have been proud of. Grain: Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt, Black Malt, Roasted Barley, Pinhead Oats. Hops: English grown Fuggles, Goldings and Target.

Bottled@Poirotti's Skotoberfest 2007. Really dark rubyish red, next to black basically. Not much head, just a little brownish foam floating. Aroma is very fruity hops with some mild wooden and roasted hints. Flavour is roasted malts, some slight caramel and ryebread. Also some slight brown sugary notes as for the sweetness. Aftertaste leaves a roasted, yet quite hopped flavour.

It's ok. Dark, almost black but the head is thin, wispy and short-lived. The aroma is chocolate and toffee adn the flavor has a milky tast to the mostly chocolate flavor. Low level of roasting. Sweet, but not cloying.

500 ml bottle, bought at Vinens Verden, Odense, Denmark. Black (= very dark ruby) colour, good tan head. Pleasant aroma: chocolate, roasted barley, coffee, prunes, leather. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, faintly acidic. Mellow flavour of roasted barley / dark malts, low bitterness. Not too much going on flavourwise, does not quite live up to the expectations the aroma creates.

bottled; from the Fête de la Bière, Lausanne 2005 - opaque black coloured, the initial head does not resist more than 10 seconds, leaving just some disparate bubbles, the nose is of roasted corns with some coffeish notes, the body is effervescent, tart with a quite harsh bitterness, the finish is very dry and corny - too rough and barely satisfying by itself but very pleasant accompanied by a good cheese.

Bottle. Deep ruby brown in color with a nice tan head. Roasty aroma. Smokey. Rich and roasty flavor. Decent beer. Nice and enjoyable.

Label says Kinmount Willie, but the back says Scottish Oatmeal Stout, so here we go. Thin bodied, yet somehow sticky molasses taste. A bit tinny with a leather like taste. Low abv for a stout. I hope I can finish the bottle.

Black color with a medium thick head. Slightly sweet and smokey aroma with alcohol undertones. Slightly smokey malt flavor with slightly sweet hoppy finish.

Aroma is the best thing going here, chocolate and toffee mainly. Appearance is dark with a faint head. Flavor is watery with some sweet chocolate thrown in. This is a little too light for my liking. Watery palate. Nothing offensive in the taste, just very little taste to speak of. No "Big Willie Style" if you will. I'll pass on this in the future.
