After drinking a few of these (12 oz bottles at 48 °F) over the course of a few days and reflecting on what a classic ESB (e.g. Fullers) should be, I think the Bridgeport ESB is a respectable, perhaps even fine, example of the English style. I am a hop head so the “Bitter” accolade always throws me. An ESB should not be heavily hopped (too bad). Appropriately, malt dominates this brew and style. So......the ale is transparent with a golden honey color. There is very little head, apparent effervescence or lacing. However, some effervescence is released on each sip which accentuates the somewhat watery mouth feel (tends to fill out toward the back of the palette). Aroma is dominated by roasted pale malt (think open hearths in a country cottage and hot breakfast cereal/oatmeal) with honey and fruit undertones Taste is malt, fruit and diacetyl, some hop bitterness with perhaps a bit of alcohol. Finishes dry with some lingering bitterness.

Orange color with a little bit of lacing. Mild hop aroma of citrus and banana. Some malt with a touch of hops. Easy to drink. One of the better Bridgeport beers I've had so far.

I am not sure what this beer is. The brewery says it si an ESB so I guess that is what we will call it. The flavor is very malty and rich like a deep brown ale. Very nice on the palate and a fantastic mouthfeel. I love it But it needs a a bit more hops, at 30IBU's it is balanced.

If you've ever drank a ESB in a London pub, then you know that this is a good one. It's a wonderful bitter. The appearance is spot on, but the head is a little thick for the style. The body is superb and the taste is great. Malt and fruit here. Sharp and refreshing. I could drink this ale all day if it wasn't for the ABV (6.1%). A little too high for the style IMHO. Overall, not a bad bitter for the other side of the pond.

Yep, another tasty Oregonian. Drank this one at the brewery in portland. Not only do they serve great brewskis, the lunch and service is a class act. Worth seeking out.

Tastey beer! Pours a clear amber colour with a small white head. toasty, a hint of smoke and delightfully bitter. Not overly acidic, balanced citrus fruit flavors.

Dark honey brown color, smallish head and a tiny amount of lacing. Caramel, bread malt flavors with a nice bitterness in the end. Sweet yet well balanced. Good.

Excellent ESB. It is one of the best looking poured beers I've seen in a while, but I'm a sucker for amber colored beer. Nice hop flavor, good aroma, overall a tastey beer.

amber color with limited time only white lacy head. very grainy. yeasty flavors, some carmel and some floral notes. not a huge fan of the style but this was aight. moderately bitter and a bit heavy on the carbonation.

A clear copper body is topped by a smallish head. The aroma is malty with a bit of caramel, but not much in the way of hops. Touch of bitterness in the end.
