also a letdown due to my general liking of the style. this one had a subpar aroma and flavor and was a tad thin on the mouthfeel. really nothing special. 6/09: all creamy (but thin) malt and feel. zero hop balance. wouldn't be good even for a brown or mild. big letdown...again.

Nothing kills my mood for a porter like black patent does. Something about that just makes me think of liking a charcoal briquette. This beer has plenty of that. Aroma was roasty, slightly nutty and a bit bready. Appearance was dark brown with red highlights. Mouthfeel was too thin for my liking. Flavor was charcoal, roasted malts and an odd sourness that I found unappealing.

It was a bit of effort getting a sample of this, since apparently I was getting the very last drops out of the keg for my 4oz sampler. And while I apreciated the bartender's commintment to making sure that I got exactly what I paid for, I have to say the resulting sample of porter really wasn't worth all the trouble.
Enough of a roasted flavor profile to make this reasonably interesting at first, but tended to quickly fade as it warmed (an oddity for the style, me'thinks). Too thin and lifeless to support what I have to assume was meant to be a fairly sturdy flavor profile. Overall drinkability on the slim side, and I couldn't imagine wanting to get a full pint of this.
If you happen to stop by this place, make a run for the hops, and skip this dark-and-not-too-evil offering....
