On Thursday, March 19th, Boundary Bay Brewery will be tapping our Spring Seasonal…Dunkles Bock. This traditional German-Style Bock is made with all German malts. Strong, full-bodied and bottom fermented, our Dunkles Bock has a low hop flavor and a deep copper color. Our rendition of this ale won Gold at at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival(GABF), Silver at the 2004 GABF and Silver at the 2004 North American Beer Awards. Bock is one of the oldest beer styles that is still being brewed and bock in German also means billygoat. Bock is the beer that is referred to in the ancient stories of monks brewing big beers to get them through long fasts…in effect, Bock is the original “liquid bread.” So, you might think that this isn’t really a beer that pairs well with food, but as long as you stay away from foods with delicate, subtle flavors you’ll be just fine. Bock’s big sweet taste with enough bittering to keep it balanced makes good company for foods with lots of flavor. Friday, March 20th is the official first day of spring, so come grab a seat at our bar or in the bistro here at Boundary Bay Brewery on Thursday’s Dunkles release to get a jump on Spring!
