https://www.boulevard.com/early-riser-coffee-porter/ The first new beer you’ll see from Boulevard Brewing Company in 2016 is Early Riser Coffee Porter. Born from friendship and a mutual love of beer, bikes, and coffee, Early Riser features Colombian Cauca Cajibio Estate custom roasted and ground at Maps Coffee Roasters by Vincent Rodriguez and a small army of his friends and family. EarlyRiser_SocialPhotoHoriz The story of Early Riser Coffee Porter begins with Lead Brewers Dustin Jamison and Joshua Keithly frequenting and later riding for Velo + in Lenexa, Kansas. The bike shop, owned and operated by Vincent Rodriguez, also houses a coffee roasting operation. Nearly a year ago, Dustin approached Vincent about the idea of working together on a coffee beer. At the time, Maps wasn’t outfitted with a large enough coffee roaster to undertake the project, but after acquiring a Loring SmartRoaster, Vincent felt ready to begin the project.

Pours translucent cola brown with a very thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma delivers quality coffee, roast malt, wheaty, and subtle chocolate notes. Flavor features coffee, roast malt and wheat tones, just a bit of chocolate, not as bold as the aroma but still enjoyable. Mouthfeel presents thin body but good fizz. Hey, it’s sunrise somewhere. ;)

Dark brown pour that shows to be mahogany when held up to the light. Small light tan head with minimal lacing. Aromas of strong coffee with some chocolate and deeply roast malt. Tastes as it smells, with the coffee upfront and dominant. Roasted malt and a hint of chocolate round out the flavors. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side. The best by date was almost 6 months ago, but I was unaware do to the packaging (6-pack came in a box). Would like to try a fresher version.

A darn brownish-black in color with a big frothy textured, tan colored head rising above. There's decent hang time in the head. A moderate ringlet and persistent creamy cap are left. Coffee and chocolate nose. Here's where it gets disappointing. The body is watery light and takes away whatever potential lay from the inviting nose. It's drinkable.

12 oz bottle. Pours brown with a big tan meringue head that retains well and laces the glass a little.
The aroma is sweet roast chocolate and coffee.
The flavor is sweet roasted chocolate malts with quite a bit of slightly stale coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, a nice coffee porter.
