Many poeple think "sweet and dark" when they hear "Honey Rye". The opposite is true. We add the honey to this beer before fermentation. The result is honey flavor but not the sweetness. Rye is a light colored malt, unless it is roasted. (Most rye breads have caramel coloring.) Rye malt is spicy and crisp so this beer finishes dry and is light in color. Facts: O.G. 1054, I.B.U. 15

Tasted on tap at Nashville Brewpub. This rye ale pours a light orange color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet, some honey and some spiciness. A light to medium bodied ale. Malts are fruit and sweet. Hops are mild and slightly bitter. Crisp and clean. Very light tasting, Very smooth tasting. Some honey flavors, not very sweet and a touch of rye spiciness. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Very unimpressive appearance for an ale. Pours yellow and fizzy with medium-clarity. There is good lacing. Aroma is mainly hoppy with the rye barely adding any character. Very light beer that's honey-smooth even with strong carbonation. Balanced flavor with a pronounced rye taste.

Sampled on draft at the Nashville brewpub. Pours a light gold with a minimal white head and nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and hard candy-like. Flavor is semi-sweet and spicy with a bit of honey. Where's the rye? Medium-bodied and moderately carbonated. Ho-hum for a GABF medal winner.
