330 ml bottle, as Cuvée des Jacobins Rouge, brewed by Brouwerij Bockor. BB date 26.08.14. From Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.5%. Deep reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma of oak, red wine, red wine vinegar and brettanomyces / farmhouse. Sweet and sour flavour, notes of red wine vinegar, sour cherries and lemon. Don’t think I’ll buy this one again.

Pours clear copper with a serviceable beige head. Aroma offers sharp, tart fruit and toasted malt. Flavor delivers seriously tart and sour fruit, mostly pomme, and lightly toasted malt. Mouthfeel presents fair body and fizz. How 'bout them monks.

The flagship beer of the Vander Ghinste brewery and it’s easy to see why. This is a superb example of a Flanders Red. A sparkly effervescent cherry red pour with a pinkish cap. Aroma is tart cherries, funk, and vinegar. Flavour is pretty much the same although the balance between the cherry sweetness and tartness is remarkably well done.

A bright reddish colored beer with a three fingered, off white head rising above. There's some hang time on the head. It settles into a moderate ringlet. There's a light tartness in the nose. More intense in the tasting and all cherry. Effervescent.

Pours a thin frothy off-white head and has a dark amber appearance. Lacing is pretty weak. Roasted malt and somewhat sour aromas. A little bit of spices. Very sour mouthfeel especially in the finish. Very strong sour/tangy flavours. Lemon and lime are in the mix. Some strong spiced hops in there as well. Excessive carbonation. Medium retention. Not something I would have more than one bottle of, but still pretty good.

Pours a clean copper (seems deep amber sometimes) colour with a big off-white head that goes down slowly and leaves a bit of lace. A nice thin coat tops the brew. Sour nose with hints of cherries, earth and wind going through a farm. The mouthfeel is very, very sour with a little tart in the finish. Sour taste. feels like eating rhubarb, with notes of mild caramel in the background, cereal grain, cherries and other wild berries. Not getting much from the oak barrels.

330 ml bottle - clear copper =red ale smallish cap goes quickly to a surface lace. Aroma is sour cherry over hors blanket. Peppery moth feel, dry and puckering. Flavour has big sour fruit in front ...mid palate some complexity with apple, stone fruit, cocoa, vanilla light wood tones....finish dry an puckering with a sour cherry kiss at the end. After finishing my last Rodenbach Gran Cru last night I can say this sour red is brighter and a bit more complex

Beer pours a translucent copper-red with a thin layer of tan bubbles for a head. Aroma is funk, tart fruit, and vinegar. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and very much alive with carbonation. Flavour has both sweet and tart cherry flavours along with funk and earthy notes. Very enjoyable.

stumbled upon this on tap at Pangea in Sac w/o realizing it was a wishlist brew! quite sour in smell and taste, with a lot of apple vinegar and sweet cherries and oak. pretty good example of a flemish red. somewhere in the 5% range, but alcohol is definitely irrelevant with such flavorful brews. good stuff.
