This classic amber lager style is the perfect transitional beer between winter and summer. It has a nice malt backbone that gives it the right touch of richness. And, the late addition of hops provides a fresh new take on this traditional beer. “With Hoppin’ Maibock we decided to put a modern twist on this spring beer,” says Lon Ladell, Big Rig Brewery’s brewmaster. “We dry hopped it with a New Zealand variety to introduce big tropical notes that lead into its complex, malty body. It balances a light touch of alcohol heat for cooler spring nights, but is still refreshing and thirst-quenching for afternoons on the patio

Pours a clean light amber colour with a warm cap creating some foamy lace. Nice fresh hop aromas with tropical fruit notes and some grapefruit. The taste is where the Maibock shows up with some sweetness, fruitiness and some darker cereal malts. Flavours seem a little unbalanced sometimes, but others, pretty good with the grassy hops. Pretty refreshing overall.

The beer pours a translucent light gold colour with a generous bubbly off-white head which lingers around for a while. Aroma is tropical hops notes, light cereal grains, and yeast. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is a bit on the skimpy side with weak hints of tropical fruit, some yeasty notes, and grains. A more flavourful punch would have been nice. -

473ml can from LCBO. Pours an average size foamy bubbly off-white head and has a clear golden amber appearance. Thick dirty lacing remains. Aromas of light bready malts, earthy hops. Flavours are also fairly malty but with some rusty like earthy hop notes. Some hints of mild spices, a bit of coriander. Good retention. Not bad.

Light golden with a fluffy white head. Head dissipates to a thin cap and leaves soapy lacing. Sweet breaded malt aroma with tropical fruit and vegetables. Sweet fruity flavour, hint of pepper and rotten veggies.(not as bad as it sounds). Odd aftertaste but still drinkable, although one is enough for me. Medium body and carbonation.
