a big, chewy, highly aromatic, resiny ipa...very good. not one you'll want every day, but a nice treat. there's a big malt backbone, that although it's flavor is overpowered by the hops, it lends a nice body to the beer.

Pours a hazy light copper color, and is topped by a thin cream colored head. A dry, bitterly aromatic, hoppy aroma wafts from my glass as I pour this beer. A deeper smell yields notes of toasted malt and a somewhat muted hop nose. Surprisingly toasted biscuits and malt notes dominate the nose. This beer is certainly sharply bitter in the taste though. More of a clean bitterness, with out much flavor or aroma hop additions. This is more akin to what the original IPA's might have tasted like, with there single hop addition. There is a lingering toasted malt note in the finish. This beer is certainly quite interesting, a completely different take for a super hopped modern IPA. This beer is best described as bitter and malty, but with no real hop flavor or aroma.

NorCal tasting July 07 - Thanks to beerguy101 for bringing this to the tasting. The beer was clearly losing its IPA characteristics and morphing into a barleywine very quickly. It was STILL a very tasty beer even if it had a few years on it. Aroma caramel and sweet with a big shot of oxidation showing up, which kept the citrusy and floral hops in check. Appearance was copper-like in color with a head on the smaller side. Flavor was sweet, oxidized, with a hearty pine character. The beer really reminded me of a SN Bigfoot these days. Overall, an enjoyable beer and if you are lucky enough to actually have some then realize this is getting harder and harder to find.

Yeah, I’m about as big of a hop-head as you’re going to find, but this is just wrong. It completely lacks any symbolence of balance. With a vigorous pour it had a nice head and some great lace. Scent was pure hops. That’s as far as this gets. It reminds me of a brew from a begining homebrewer who is trying to make something extreme. Not quite a drain-pour, but far from good.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a small head with minimal retention. Aroma of strong floral hops is quite enjoyable. Taste is a weird mix between dry hops with weird sweet malt. I didn’t particularly enjoy the mix between the sweetness and the dry hops. I would have enjoyed more bitterness and a greater level of carbonation (the beer was almost flat). I wonder if I got a bad bottle or maybe this is just not for me.

A newer beer for the SoCal area, though I confess to admitting that I didn't neccessarily jump up and shout and do the hoppy happy dance up and down the Beverages & More asiles when I first saw this. With the way the Grants beers have been as of late, I've been of the opinion that the brewery could easily save money on the electric bill each month by simply attaching a generator to the old man spinning in his grave over such beers as the so-called Mandarin Hefeweizen Beer.
But anyway, I'm glad I picked this up. A very solid, very PacNW American IPA, that has a ton of character in the nose and the flavor. While I can't see how this somehow clocks in as being >90 IBUs, it does have a nice lip-smacking hoppiness that I expect from an IPA from Washington state.
Quality IPAs need a respectable malt base too, and I was not disappointed on this count, either.
A little light in the loafers for what I normally like in an American IPA -- we're only talking about 5%ABV, after all. But for a solid sessionable bitter beer, this works quite nicely for me.
Recommended.

Medium orange gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is floral and citrus hops, some malts and a little earthiness. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, floral and citrusy. Nicely balanced. A medium bitter IPA with a long lasting bitter aftertaste. Extremely cool silk-screened bottle, the hop flower in the creatureís eye is awesome. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is bitter.

poured a cloudy ornge amber with a small whitish head. good hop aroma in the nose but the body was over balanced by malt more than the hops. alchol was low for this style also.

Pours a cloudy, light orange color. Thin head. The aroma is a solid orange with notes of honey and flowers. Nice orange peel with some sweet malty backbone to back it up. Also has notes of bread crust. finishes with a buttery and slightly greasy feeling. A solid and heavy IPA, but could also be called a lighter double IPA Very pleasant and well balanced. Got this from a trade. Thanks HeRftYDrF!
