Belhaven Brewery?s flagship American-style IPA. The Challenger hops offer bitterness and fresh dry hop herbal character. Cascade hops adds refreshing pink grapefruit and a floral note and Hersbrucker adds more floral and a touch of spicy and fruity hop. A biscuity malt sweetness balances the robust bitterness. too malty for an ipa, english or otherwise, though its a fairly well put together beer...just not the type of IPA I'll usually go for. caramel and biscuit malt in equal or greater measure than light, fruity hops. A little weak on the feel, but pleasant aftertaste.

Sampled at the Pub. Pours out a deep golden-hued body with good clarity and has a nice white head. Some bits of lace left on glass. The aroma is somewhat malty, sweet-scented that yields touches of honey and golden caramel with notes of orange blossoms, and spicy herbs. The taste is sort of sweetish with some crisp caramel-coated grains & honey, with a bit of breadiness. The mouthfeel is Medium-bodied with too little carbonation.

It pours a hazy/cloudy burnt-orange/amber with very thin white head and slight lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, very light hops, brown sugar, citrus, and mild spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, silky, and rich. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, citrus, tea leaves, bitterness and spices. Very mellow and enjoyable - good balance.

Pours a nice light amber, rather clear with little haze. Head nicely present with respectable lacing. Flavor is somewhat delicate for an IPA, but easy to drink down.

This poured an orange color with a moderate white head. The aroma contains pine, grapefruit, and oranges. The flavor is rather hoppy with more grapefruits, orange, and a slight malt presence. This probably walks the line between APA and IPA but still a nice beer.

Poured a slightly hazy amber/orange with a short head and some lacing. Nice peach hops aroma with some sweet malts and a hint of floral. Taste is very mild hop-wise for an IPA but still very good. Slightly sweet malts, peach-grapefruit hops with little bitter linger, some herbs.

This beer was very clear and light in color; however it was very good. Notwithstanding the color, the beer was a very piney hopped brew that left the cheeks puckering. I would recommend this beer to those who like European IPAs

This brew poured a hazy gold with a moderate white, rocky head. The aroma is herbal hops and mild malt. The flavor was not "hopped" as expected but a tasty blend of both herbal hops and malt, Mouthfeel was thick--even chewy. Overall, nice but mild edition to the world of IPA's.

KSBF 08 - Orange amber pour with small layer of foam. Balanced beer with lots of floral english style hops and sweet malt. Crisp and refreshing. Probably the best English IPA I've had yet.

An IPA from Belhaven? Who'd have dunk? This is by far the most interesting IPA I have had. The hops are less bittering and more in the nose herbal and citrusy. The body is an intensely cloudy copper color. The head is small, but hangs around for awhile, settling into a soapy lacing. The taste is ever so slitly bittering, then in not as intense as most IPA's. It was a good drink, all around, in part because of his uniqueness. it went well as IPA's do with take out froed Chinese dishes.
