A tribute to the Roggenbiers of Germany, but done with with a North American twist. Deep copper in colour, Mr. Hyde is a rye beer that has been hopped aggressively in the American vein. However, it utilizes German hops to provide bitterness, flavour and aroma, while the rye malt provides an additional spiciness.

Pours a huge foamy head that doesn't let up. Has a dark amber/copper appearsnce. Aromas of malts, caramel and hints of toffee. Dark roasted malt flavours, strong hints of caramel, earthy and herbal hops. Some notes of nuts and breads. Warming sensation. medium retention. Slick mouthfeel. Happy to have been able to try this one.

Part of their 2013 Oktoberfest 4-pack at the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a creamy off-white head, great retention leaving thick foamy lace all-around. Rye, darker malts scent with floral and caramel notes. The rye is quite present in the taste, but this is where the hop shows up with a grassy finish. Some decent bitterness lingers. Some fruitiness appears as well, to blend things. Not my favourite style, but well-done and glad I could try No. 14 of this series. Wish they brought out the Dr. Jekyll too.

Part of an Oktoberfest 4-pack from Beau's featuring 4 different beers from the Wild Oat's Series. This beer pours a translucent copper colour with a half inch thin light tan head. Aroma is rye, spices, and light fruit. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation. Flavour is spicy rye, some citrusy hops, and a dish soapiness note. Quite good. -

Bottle - pours a hazed copper-red with a decent 3 inger off white frothy cap that laces well. Aroma is modest but there is some spicy rye notes and light noble herbal notes. Flavour is intense but 2 dimensional - the big pearl hop infusion almost obliterates the rye spiciness and other malts until the finish where the hops break away a bit and you get a malty-earthy discernment. An oddball brew but intense - some will like it.
