500 ml capped bottle. Poured in a tulip pint a clear ruby-brown coloured ale with a one finger beige foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is faint sweety caramel malts, molasses, hint of grassy hops. The flavour is sweety caramel malts, riped fruits, plums, raisins. The mouthfeel is creamy, fresh and smooth. This light to medium bodied ale has a dry slight hoppy bitter finish. A decent X-mas ale, may be a point to bland but really not an E.S.B.

500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård, Denmark. ABV is 4.9%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head. Malty aroma with notes of caramel, hints of grassy hops too. Malty flavour, medium sweet, caramel and a hint of fruit (preserved cherries?). A dry hoppy bitterness in the finish. Okay.

Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm. Brownish amber colour. Weak aroma of toffee and nut shells. Roated grains, fudge and black chocolate in flavour with notes of salt, almond and a acidic/oaky undertone. Salt and dark chocolate in the aftertaste with notes of wet grass.

This is no porter, more a speciality winter beer, which style used to be very popular in uk. Reddish ale with malted barley and fruit in aroma. Taste is of caramel and fruit. good with strong cheese

this isn't a porter. its ok. nothing special. tastes a bit dry, perhaps. it looks fairly decent, and i love the name & label. not a bad chrimbo beer but there are better ones out there. probably the least enjoyable batemans bottle i have sampled yet.

Cask, hand-pump, at the Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough. Dark brown/red colour with a good sized off-white creamy head. Aroma of roasted malts and fruit. Malty, roasty, caramel and fruity taste. Medium to thin bodied. Reasonable beer I suppose.
