A beer that has a dominant malty taste. This beer’s origins in a monk’s recipe are reflected in its heartiness. The Pope of Beers, Conrad Seidl, describes it as: “Almost black with a very slight red tone, a sensational, festive foam and truly extraordinary fragrance that at first summons up visions of greaves lard. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. There is very little of the sweetness that is frequently to be tasted with doppelbock beer.” The Ayinger Celebrator has been ranked among the best beers of the world by the Chicago Testing Institute several times and has won numerous platinum medallions.

This beer is fantastic! I'm not a doppel bock drinker, but this beer blows me away. The aroma, the taste, everything. The only thing that keeps me from having this all the time is the price.

Sample from bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2013. Very dark ruby colour, nearly black. Moderate tan head. Surprisingly moderate aroma: dark bread, some caramel. Rich malty flavour, dark bread and caramel again, also some molasses, but not cloyingly sweet. Very moderate hops as expected. A good doppelbock, but way overrated.

Bottle. Came with a plastic toy goat. Colour – dark brown, reddish hues, solid but transparent when held up to a light, light tan head, good lacing. Aroma – roasted malt, caramel, molasses, dark fruit, dark chocolate. Mouthfeel – medium bodied, good carbonation. Flavour – sweet up front, bitter in the finish, no hint of alcohol. Well balanced. Great beer.

I was gifted this bottle. It was touted as the givers favorite beer. I can see why. Dark, malty, roasted caramel taste, smooth mouth feel, slight bitterness. A very enjoyable beer, just a little pricey.I would drink it again.

Whats not to like? Rich malty goodness rising up into my nose. Chokolate, caramel, bready , dried fruits. Difficult to evaluate while I am drinking- just soooooo tasty. Like drinking bread- Thick, rich and chewy. So good German Bratvurst and potatoes with butter and parsley. Yeah, I could live on this!

Dark brown, lacing lasting light brown foam head. Sweet caramel aroma and so also taste. Some fruit tones, but still remains quite sweet. (Rotterdam 201411)

Too bad this beer isn't available year rtound because I could drink this every day. A beautiful dark brown pour with a mid-sized off-white head enters the glass. Fresh baked bread, plums, and chocolate are the primary aromatic components. Flavour is fantastic for the style with a well balanced palate between the malty sweetness,m and the bitter hoppish finish. I love this beer.

I'm sure glad this beer is only 7% abv. Because it's hard to stop drinking them. This black Doppelbock just gets better and better as it warms up. I like to order them two at a time so the second one is perfect in taste. When I'm ready to light my second cigar.

Pours a semi transparent dark brown with not much of a head at all. Lots of carbonation. Aroma is quite malty with little hints of chocolate and toffee. Taste is very malty with hints of dried fruit sweetness. Also fizzy to the tongue with a slight metallic hit that goes away at a near instant. Finishes of kinda sticky and still holding flavor. Very nice Doppel.

Pours an average size tan head. Has a dark brown appearance, almost black. Has good lacing and average retention. Dark roasted malt aromas dominate, sort of yeast with some cocoa. Flavours are thick and rich in dark malts, with mochaa and coffee notes. Seems like alcohol is faintly noticeable. A hint of chocolate rounds out the whole. Mouthfeel is average. has some bitterness and has a bit of spicy notes in aftertaste. Pretty good stuff.

Very dark brown colour with half inch bubbly tan head. Head disappears to nothing and leaves no lacing. Strong malt aroma. Rich malt flavour with a little chocolate and fruitiness. Smooth mouthfeel medium body and very little carbonation.
