A refreshing wheat beer spiced with fresh ginger root. The process of making this wheat beer has been nicknamed "special ginger tea", due to the fact that we add over 20 lbs. of fresh ground ginger root into the boil. We use pale malt, and wheat, as well as Target and Whitbread Goldings Variation hops to flavor this light, summer ale. Island Ginger is particularly popular during the warmer summer months, though thanks to the ginger kick it has, it would also be warming in the cold winter months.

A cloudy golden amber body, a few floaters, not much for head or lace though. Sweet malts in the aroma, but the ginger didnt show until tasting, there were also flavors of vanilla, caramel malts and spices. An interesting beer, its not great but its uniqueness makes it worth sampling.

Pours a semi translucent orange colour witha small, quick to disipate white head. Aroma is old ginger, oranges, coriander and cinnamon. Soft ginger, nutmeg, orange peel and bananna on the palate.

It pours an opaque orange-amber with a fairly thick off-whitehead. Aroma is rich and malty with a strong undertone of orange. Flavor is crisp and malty, somewhat citrus fruity, with just a whisper of hops. It goes down smoothly and is very refreshing and delightful.

didn't really know what to expect from this beer (the ole 1/6 sixer) ... Pours a sunrise dark orange, with quite a low head- sticks around barely ... interesting appealing smell, ginger, honey, spice, etc... also has an interesting flavour, ginger and other befuddling tastes... an ok spiced beer that might be better on tap.. Overall: this seems to be a single bottle purchase more than a sixer buy, but maybe worth a shot... Music: Chris Liberator live @ Rotation in Iowa City

This is a weird beer that I cannot get my hands on. After snagging some of the Nodding Head's Monkey Knife Fight, I've been on this "ginger kick". Unfortunately Atlantic's Mountain Desert Island one fell a little short of what I was expecting. The beer pours out smooth with little carbonation, so there's not much of a head. The color is a clear, medium amber. Aroma-wise, the smell isn't that strong, but upon sticking my nose in the glass it has a slight smell of a plate of Chinese food. The taste is where I where I get lost. I'm not sure what I'm tasting. There's a light ginger taste to the beer, but something else is in there that I can't put my finger on. Unlike some ginger beers, you aren't left with that "mediciny taste" that is sometime common. Try it if you want, but there are others out there that are better.

I was really impressed with this one. The aroma had a slight ginger scent along with some yeast and other fruits....very nice! It poured a cloudy golden coloring with a thick, long lasting head. I love powerful ginger beer sodas but this was quite subtle in the taste. The ginger came through, but not in an overpowering way. There was a bit of honey that was also detected in the taste. I think this would be a great summer brew and I would gladly ask for it again!

12 oz twist off bottle from The Beer Store Bottle Shop in Moon Township for $1.75 nice price Frank. Has some sediment in the bottom of the bottle. A darker almost apricot orange color unfiltered wheat beer look with swirling haze. Difficult and somewhat aggressive spice or hoppy flavor. I'm curious if this is a fruit or veggy beer. Not many entries in my spiced/herb/vegatable style. Flavor is different than most others, individual in taste. The ginger adds a uniquealky impression that makes this seem more than is listed. Has a long way to go when compared tothe manners of circus boy. Not as bad as old fexxiwig or Sly Fox Xmas Ale.

Pours a rich gold color with little head that soon turns into no head. Mild if not poor carbonation to this one. The aroma was slightly sweet and definately malty. The first couple of drinks hinted at a touch of ginger, but as this beer sat a while and warmed up a bit the ginger really came through. Toward the end not a single bubble of carbonation could be found and the ginger was overpowering. I think this would still be a weak wheat beer even if the ginger was removed from the recipe. Each sip reminded me more and more of asian stir fry and less and less of beer.

Hazy gold body is topped by a respectable amount of white foam. The aroma is really more malt than ginger. It’s got a nice dry hay malt flavor and aroma that makes this an exceedingly drinkable beer. The ginger is very mild. In fact, I wouldn’t even know it was made with ginger, although I think the root spice creates a bit of vague spiciness that combines with the estery yeast flavors makes this almost seem like a mild Belgian ale. I’m getting a little cinnamon and vanilla as well.
