A good, clean nutbrown ale with a malty body. This is our most popular ale due to its smooth and malty flavor. We use a mixture of pale, crystal and black malts in this one, and our primary hop is Target, though we also add some Whitbread Goldings variation as well. The Real Ale is best fresh, so fresh in fact, that it's great right out of the bright tank. Yeast: Nottingham Hops: Wye Golding, Pilgrim Malts: Pale, Crystal, Black Patent ABV: 4.8%

What a glorious, brown ale! The color is absolutely beautiful when poured from bottle or draught. The flavor is not too dark for being such a brown ale, and even those that usually fear dark beers will find this one a pleasure.

Had with a lobster roll and then again at a tour of the brewery, nice tour and tasting. Crystal malts dominate the nose. Pours a medium brown body with a decent head, little lace, ok retention. Mouth is medium and slippery. Crystal malt predominates, feels very low alcohol..not sure I believe the 5.2 and actually website says 4.8. VERY drinkable, hugely sessionable.

Not hateful... just not a stellar brew. Nice label, however. Slightly smokey aroma - heavy malt aroma and flavor. Caramel color, thin head, virtually no head or lacing. Thick in the mouth... fair flavor.

A deep mahogany colored beer. A small creamy texture whitish colored head rises above. It settles quickly into a thin lacing. No film on the sides. The aroma is all about malt, sweet, caramel fruity malt. The body is medium light. Low carbonation. Smooth on the palate. The tasting as like the aroma are the high points to this beer. Bready, sweet, roasted.

Aroma is spicy and malty, about average strength, inviting at least. It pours a nice dark hazy burnt umber with a fairly thick beige head. The bottle I got fizzed quite a bit! Flavor is malty and a little spicy, mainly cloves with a hint of cinnamon and just a whisper of apple. Texture is smooth and a little tingly. Worth a try, or two.

This brown ale poured a dark brown color with literally no head. It had a smooth malty aroma with notes of caramel and toffee. The flavor was very sour and had a tart finish. Not good at all.

From a variety 12 pack from the grocery store: I'm really curious about this beer, it's a possiblity i got a bad batch of the brown. Poured a light brown colour with a reddish tint. Head is medium sized slightly frothy. This is where the beer gets me: Aroma is sour, like fermented apples, and cherries possilby. Taste is sour also, lemons, and green apples. not appealing in any way really, thats why im thinking it was a bad batch.

Knoxville Brewers' Jam 2008. Pours a clear tea brown with a slight tannish head and decent lacing. Some carbonation. Aromas of sweet caramel malt, nuts and hops. Taste is nutty and malty with the hops in the finish.

Tasted at the February Northern California Beer Tasting. This brown ale poured a brownish color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and sweet with a touch of smoke and some tobacco. Medium to light bodied brown ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. with more than a touch of oxidation. The hops are kind of floral. Note this was probably an old or bad bottle as it was kind of thin and somewhat oxidized. Will retry when possible. Mouthfeel was thin. Finish was clean. Aftertaste was slightly bitter.
