San Francisco's famous Anchor Steam®, the classic of American brewing tradition since 1896, is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. The deep amber color, thick creamy head, and rich flavor all testify to our traditional brewing methods. Anchor Steam is unique, for our brewing process has evolved over many decades and is like no other in the world. Anchor Steam derives its unusual name from the 19th century when "steam" seems to have been a nickname for beer brewed on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. For many decades Anchor alone has used this quaint name for its unique beer. In modern times, "Steam" has become a trademark of Anchor Brewing.

Pours darker than I expected and not much head. The aroma was floral and malty. The taste was overpowered by bitterness. Not like anything I have had but I was not a fan and will not try again.

Rated April 2006. Poured clear light copper in color with tiny white short lived head. Below average aroma that comes mostly from the caramel to biscuit malts with a bit of hops. First taste has the caramel/biscuit malt flavor reaching in and giving your tongue a hug with an above average level of carbonation. The finish feels dry and a bit of bitterness from the hops. A good beer.

Bottle. Colour – transparent orange, white head, good lacing. Aroma – cereal malt, light spices, light herbal hops, some yeast. Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, good carbonation. Flavour – quite malty and heavy on the cereal grains, weak hop finish but doesn’t balance out the malt

Gift by Hans. Nice dark orange, off white lacing foam head. Barley and light caramel in aroma, some fruity notes. Creamy drink feeling in mouth. (Velp 201512)

It pours a slightly hazy orange color with a lightly tan head. Aroma is lightly sweet and malty, and medium crispy and citrusy, lightly grainy. Taste is lightly caramel and malty, and medium piny and citrusy hoppy. Finishes dry and grainy. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Overall, not bad

Tasty this stuff-what? I usually shy away from alot of this CA-common beer- steam whatever, just because there seems to be a lot of people that push the hop levels to insane numbers. This is some tasty brew! This will become standard stocked item for the fridge. Noot a big hops presence, nice, nice copper yellow. Some biscuit and little malt going on. +++ for A S. Update 15 Mar 15 another few glasses of this golden nectar the report stays valid as written. Good brew!

Pours out a dark gold color with a orange tint with a tan head. The aroma is of mild hops. The mouthfeel smooth with just a slight zing. The flavor is okay just not very full or complex.

355 ml capped bootle, as a 4,8 % ABV. Poured in the original Anchor Brewing shaker pint glass a clear and orange-copper coloured S B with a one finger beige, creamy, dense and fine foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Lively carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is toasted and caramel malts, floral hops and may be a honey touch. The flavour is solid caramel malts, dried fruits, nuts, apricots and fruity, grainy apples. The mouthfeel is light crispy, sweety and nice bitter. The texture is a bit oily. This light to medium bodied S B has a long bitter finish. An easy drinkable and very enjoyable Steam Beer.

Pour s acrisp golden amber with a 2 finger head that takes its damned time going down. Extremely carbonated this one is. Aroma is dry with hints of malts and cookie dough. Taste is quite dry with hints of malts and terra nova. Finishes off quite dry and sticky. Good session beer.

Amber pour resembling applejuice. Very thin head but quite a bit of lace left on the glass. Fair amount of hops and grass in the taste. I'll definitely have to try this one again. Not sure why I hadn't had this before.
