Fluxus '09 was brewed in the style of the traditional Saison. For our twist, we added sweet potatoes, black pepper and a generous amount of hops. Sweet potatoes not only enhance it's pale orange appearance, they contribute significant body. Centennial hops produce a bold grapefruit aroma, which is followed by a mild honeysuckle sweetness. The intensity of both the pepper and hops are felt throughout, leaving a lingering warmth on the tongue. Papya, citrus and pepper dominate the flavor profile.

A saison style beer that I found to be on the heavy side. The taste is weird with some really different vegetables. Aroma was spicy, funk, and yeast. Just came across as heavy.

Sampled on 10/1/2010. This saison pours a medium orange gold color from a cork and caged 750ml bottle. Medium sized white foamy head with good retention and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity and sweet, peaches and apricots and a hint of sweet potato. A medium bodied saison. The malts are fruity and sweet with a touch of sweet potato and pepper. The hops are earthy. Decent carbonation. Very smooth taste. Nice bright yeasts. Overall a touch sweet, but balanced by the black pepper at the finish. The black pepper flavors come out mostly at the finish. A nice sipping beer that sweetens somewhat as it warms. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours a golden orange with a generous white head that dissipates to low fluff. Aroma of citrus and pepper. Mouthfeel has a nice good bite. Flavor is smooth sweet but perhaps an overload of pepper burn in the finish. No sweet potatoes in mine, either.

Bottle: Poured a bright hazy orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some pretty good lacing. Aroma of rustic ester with some great notes of spices and some sweet undertones. Taste is a great mix between some Belgian-style malt with residual sweetness, some rustic notes and a light peppery yeast. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good bottle-conditioning with great carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Very well brewed, easily drinkable with loads of complexity though no yam could be detected.
