This beer is brewed in the style of a robust porter, which is a black brew with hints of chocolate and caramel from the large additions of chocolate malt and black patent malt. Balancing the sweetness of the malt are two varieties of noble hops: Perle for bittering and flavor, and Styrian Golding for aroma. They make the Irvington Porter a quaffable, flavorful, smaller brother to the Black Bear XX stout.

from previous notes from a trip to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2004 I thought that this was a pretty nice porter. If there were supposed to be junipers in the flavor, I didn’t notice them, though.
