A surprisingly light-bodied stout with hints of chocolate and coffee. Despite being the same color as the dark side of the moon, this beer has a subtle and intricate mouth feel. The Black Bear XX Stout has won two medals at the Great American Beer Festival.

From Haggen (Burlington, WA) in a bomber. Good looking pour - dark brown with a medium brown head. Aroma featured malt, coffee, and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel above average for a stout. Flavour echoed the aroma, along with a nicely balanced finish. Good stout.

Comes out of the tap an opaque warm sable with a bubbly tan head like the fizz on freshly-poured cola. Rich aroma has strong molasses and mocha tones, and is somewhat sweet but not too sweet. Superb, smoky flavor has quality coffee, molasses, nutty and chocolate tones, and is very enjoyable. Thick, fairly fizzy texture has a powdery hint and leaves a fizzy, smoky finish.

session stout? maybe if you are chuck freakin norris! this was served ala nitro at the portland airport, and reminded me a lot of rasputin sereved the same way. maybe a touch below in overall flavor and complexity, but it was big on flavor, big on chocolate, and big on hops. huge aroma. roasted coffee in there too. very good stout. Ironically not as awesome CO2 or Nitro at Alamada. Hmmm...

Since Alameda county is in California, I thought this would be a California beer, but it's not. It's a black Oregon baszed stout that has a tan coloured head. The aroma is roasted malt, toffee, and a hint of hops. The flavour is sl;ightly sweet, malty with strong tones of coffee.

A: Pours a jet black almost inky color with a two finger caramel colored frothy head that leaves puffy cloud like lace. A: Aromas of sweet caramel malt notes with a roasted mix. Noticed some licorice and chocolate malts on the second whiff. Smells very smooth and full bodied. F: Tastes of sweet chocoloate and caramel malts blends with roasted malts. Very silky smooth and quite rich tasting. Not overly rich though, just that perfect taste that keeps you coming back for more. M: Mouthfeel and drinkability are awesome on this offering from Alameda. Full bodied but very well balanced. Low carbonation allows you to fully taste the chocolate and caramel. This is what a stout should taste like. Two thumbs up for Alameda. If I had another, I'd drink it right now. I would love to try this on tap...Gotta get out to the Left Coast soon!

from previous notes, this is a 'session' stout. It is smooth-drinking with a dry finish. I could see that someone could knock back a few of these. I thought it was pretty nice.
