Jockamo is named for the tribes of dancing, singing, chanting “Mardi Gras Indians” who have marched in New Orleans for over 250 years. When you hear the drums, join in the song...“Iko! Iko! Jockamo fe na ne”. Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate. The intense hop character adds more spice to the meal and makes it a perfect choice to team up with many spicy dishes. Cheddar and strong farmer cheeses stand up well to Jockamo’s hoppy character. Jockamo goes well with wild game, grilled meats and Thai or Mexican cuisine. The newest Abita brew takes its name and inspiration from the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans. Looking for Indians on Mardi Gras Day is a tradition for many New Orleans families. A cultural phenomenon familiar to residents of the Crescent City, the Mardi Gras Indians are not well known to outsiders and Abita is proud to help share their story with the world.

I picked up a 6pack of Jockamo from Wegmans for use in a beer batter. The beer batter came out amazing. I later tried it on its own, my first time having an IPA. I can taste the caramel malts but that's about it. The aroma is eh. It is pretty crisp and is a wonderful red/orange color. Overall not bad, wouldn't turn down if on sale.

Not a big fan of Abita....and this is a classic example of why. Dunno what to call this..an IPA or Pale Ale? Has a little bitter, but not like the typical IPA. Balance is off whack. Flat on the carb. Final aftertaste is ok. Murky light brown appearance. Better than swill, but not something I would seek in this style. Glad that I only grabbed a single to sample.

This is a southern ipa with a pine and lemon combination, a real summer beer, I would like it on a hot day, but just one. The flavor is unique enough that it doesn't compare with other ipas, yet I could see also getting sick of it pretty quickly.

More malt in the nose than hops. Reasonable hops in the flavor and aftertaste. I'd be way more impressed if the beer was labled as a Red. Pours amber and clear. I'd be happy to try it again if it was fresh on tap otherwise I may pass on the random bottle.

Pours an orange/brownish color. Smell is of hops, touch of citrus. Taste is bitter, some malts, not a lot of flavor or paticularly pleasant. Overall I found this beer to be a bit of a disappointment.

It pours an amber/burnt-orange with a thick and fluffed white(with some light orange mixed in, and copious lacing. An aroma of caramel malts, hops, grapefruit and orange, some bitterness and yeast, and lightly spicy. The mouthfeel is smooth although thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, grapefruit and orange, bread and yeast, bitters, and spices. A bit thin, although tasty altogether.

Jockamo on Mardi Gras - the world is right. Nice orange amber pour with slight off white head and spotty lacing. Almost overly sweet aromas with some mango hops. Malty. Taste is a tad sweet and more mango hops bitter. Is that Big Chief Monk Boudreaux on the label? Sure looks like him. Pretty good - but appropriate considering it's Fat Tuesday: Iko Iko all day, Jockamo feno na na nay, Jockamo feena nay. My grandma and your grandma were sitting by the fire Said my grandma to your grandma, "Gonna get your tail on fire." I said, "Hey now," "Hey now," Iko Iko all day, Jockamo feno na na nay, Jockamo fee na nay!

Poured a dark cooper color with about a finger of golden looking head the disappears real quick. Strong smell of hops. A hint of nectar in the taste. The aftertaste is hoppy but not a strong hoppy aftertaste as with most IPA's

Like other reviews i found nothing to write home about here.Just a real average IPA.Received in a variety pack as a gift. The beer top dissipated quickly, followed by a lot of disappointing taste.'Ok' it was drinkable, but i was real thirsty.I would pass on this beer if i had to buy it myself.
