What are your favorite RETIRED beers?
General Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77
(with some certainty they won't be brewed again). My list reminds me why Stone is my favorite brewer - they just keep putting these out! These are the ones I will reminisce about often: Deschutes Abyss* (*this beer is dramatically different than earlier vintages, the recent years going from an all-time favorite to simply very very good) Goose Island King Henry Firestone Walker 13 Ken Schmidt/Maui/Stone Kona coffee madadamia nut coconut Porter Stone Red Wine BA 07-07-07 Goose Island BCS Rare Firestone Walker 15 Stone Loland Scotch 15 Deschutes Stoic? (not sure of future plans on this) Stone 15 Deschutes Conflux #1 Collage Firestone Walker 14 Ken Schmidt/Iron Fist/Stone Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout Troegs/Stone Rye Whiskey Chocolate Cherry Stout

[/quote] I are an engineer. Agreed. My ratings, though, for most states don't tell a story. If I held on to trading longer and cherry picking were a bigger factor, that's what it would indicate. Right now, it's a random hodge podge. I think slowrunner's approach in the other IPA thread is perhaps more pertinent.... Look at your top 10 or 25 or even 100, then see what state they come from. That would justify a favorite. It may not be your objective "best," though, due to geographical distribution limitations? Intersting. But, I can't imagine my top 10 IPAs would tell a different story than California if I had all my ratings entered and up to speed.

I like slowrunner's approach. I am envious. I wish I had kept up with my ratings. But then, I am admittedly a numbers guy.

Seat of the pants, judging by what's usually in the fridge, it's Michigan. Almost always, there's a Bells, Founders, and/or Dark Horse brew in there, usually more than one. That will change, though, for a bit. I got stuck in Wisconsin last night, and brought home about $175 worth of beer, probably take me a week or so to clear that up.[:D] Oh, and on the way home today, I got too close to Munster, Indiana around lunchtime, so there's a case of FFF Zombie Dust, too![:p] I notice, most of my faves are east of the Mississippi, and I have to wonder, does midwestern beer appeal to the midwestern palate, or is it simply a freshness issue?
What's available in Foam's Flavor-filled Fridge is a function of what is distributed locally. Bet I would have more Russian River, FFF, New Glarus, Alaskan, and Good People if I could get them.

Sounds like a great way to spend a night, and a week!

"Got too close.." As Elvis Costello said, "Accidents will happen."

To test the freshness hypothesis, travel.

I have no numbers to throw out there, I just know what I like. My favorite states to drink from are Oregon, Colorado & Wisconsin. That's where I personally find the most variety. However, Vermont is not too far behind.

It's definitely good to live in the places you've lived.
