In Reply To #45 LOL. I gotta say I laughed pretty hard when I read that. I live in a valley where it's hard enough to get my Red Sox to come in clear (I've got 4 different stations on memory so I can constantly change whenever I'm driving).
In Reply To #49 Purple is good. But Core is the jam. I can listen to that one all the way through and every song is good. Ive mentioned this in other threads but I enjoy alot of 80's music mainly the underground early 80's stuff. Sure its cheesey but its good IMO
In Reply To #46 How one expresses disagreement reveals volumes---about the speaker! I like how you called the theory of music as a proxy for age garbage, without actually condemning me personally. Artfully done, Crown. In addition to wisdom beyond your years, you also possess a broad spectrum of musical tastes--broader, perhaps, than most of your contemporaries. Music as a proxy for age might get you in the ballpark, generally, but nothing beats the real data. But why just up and ask someone how many years they've been alive? Isn't it more fun to find out how much life has been in those years?
As a youngster I grew up on Jazz (mainly Big Bands), then I progressed into Rock & Roll. My first hard rock album was Deep Purple's Machine Head, I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack. I've been listening to classic rock ever since. My all-time favorite bands have to be Led Zeppelin and Rush although there are far to many great bands to list.

Another one here with the musical tastes all over the place. In the car it tends to be oldies (mainly 60's stuff-Grassroots, Classics IV, Buckinghams and tons of one hit wonders), classical or jazz. It must be the ol' music minor/band geek in me. Love the oldies from the 60's but also groups and artists like the B-52's, Pablo Cruise, Todd Rundgren, Earth, Wind & Fire, Styx, disco (guilty pleasure) and so on. Jazz/Swing is a favorite as well. I love the old big band pieces from the Dorsey's, Goodman, Larry Clinton, Helen Forrest and others. I even like the 78's that pre-date swing. Jazz.....Tower of Power, Joshua Redman, Jane Monheit, Sonny Rollins and tons of others. Then there are the drum & bugle corps/field marching pieces as well (band geek!) Classical.......the dramatic pieces like those by Shostakovich, Dvorak, Holst and so on. However, I keep my mind open to most kinds of music....classic rock and alternative and hard rock are fun. Hip-hop is not something I care for, though and country is tough to get into. BUT........gotta love the Irish Drinking Songs! Who Threw The Overalls In Mrs. Murphy's Chowder is a big favorite.
In Reply To #51 Your pontifications are often amusing, always very well thought out and very succinctly put. I have to disagree with you on this thread, however. I have a seven year old son who actually rocks to classic rock, and loves blues. The only time he's so much as raised an eyebrow is when I was scanning the stations while driving and landed on classical. He didn't dig it at all. I don't think mucical choices are a good indicator of age, to the contrary. I think music transends any age barriers. Perfect example? Norah Jones. This is a young lady who has a classic voice and actually uses it for something other than bubble-gum songs ala Brittany Spears, Christina Aquilara or any other number of manufactured pop voices available today. She sings what she wants and pretty much says, take me as I am or kiss my ass. My beautiful wife introduced me to her, then afterwards I found out that in 2003, this woman sold more records in the United States than EVERYONE except one artist (50 Cent). At least there's hope, she did come in second place to a half dollar.
