Named after the Dorset Horn ram that lives in the brewery stables in Wandsworth, and on which the company's trademark is based. Pale brown, fruity, vinous, hoppy beer - a good example of a medium strong beer - packed full of flavour. Maris Otter pale ale malt, crystal malt, fermentation sugar Fuggles and Goldings hops. Goldings hops added during the cold storage. A traditional much loved Young’s favourite, Ram Rod is a great medium strong beer. Available late Summer and Autumn (15 August – 21 October).

Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is sweet fruity and berryish hops along with some caramel. Flavour is caramel, fruits, hops and slight hints of yeast.

Brown Young's bottle with a ram embossed on the shoulder (red label, not blue as in picture). 1pt 0.9oz (500ml) bottle, with BB date clipped into back label. Pours a clear golden copper color, with an off-white head. Large bubbles that dissipate to a thin cap floating on top. No real lacing to speak of. Smell is a bit sweet with some hops noticeable. There is a full malt flavor with the hops coming through at the end. I found this quite mild (as per an ESB), but well balanced. I would call this one medium-bodied. There is a good level of carbonation. All around a good mouthfeel. This beer has a very nice balance of flavors. Nothing is overpowering, and easy to drink.

This beer poured a dark orange with frothy white head, and a little lacing. The aroma is fruity and sort of hoppy. Mouthfeel was disapointingly thin, with medium carbonation. The taste was fruit, hops, and a little bitterness, but not nearly as much as is common with an ESB. I was disapointed, some of Youngs beers are excellent, but this is very much run of the mill. If I were somewhere that had it on tap, I might give it one more shot, I definitely won't be seeking it out at a liquor store again.

Aroma is hoppy and a little fruity. Pours an amber-orange color with a medium white head. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, perhaps a little watery feeling. Flavor is hoppy, sweet malt, and a little fruit. Enjoyed this English bitter very much!

A foggy amber to orange hue with a white 1 inch leave of foamy suds on top is present. Scents of hops and fresh baked bread are highly noticeable on the nostrils. Hops are akin to the taste, but they are very mild, as Ram Rod has more of a roasted malt quality and character on the buds. Ram Rod is a little bit watery, but it has a slight biscuit quality as well. The finish is very clean and dry. Not bad, but it would be so much better if it were nitrogenated, a la Belhaven.

An amber-orange ale with a nice cap and modest carbonation. Nose carries notes of sweet ripe fruit and a musty earthy tone. Sweet chewy malt up front, subdued hops add tartness to sweet cidery tastes in the middle and the finish gets slightly dry with the bittering coming in and leaving a metalic after taste....Well crafted...a sweet but mellow "bitter" for those who really don’t like bitter ales.

Ahhh, English bitter. It looks and tastes just like it should. It complimented my lasagne superbly. Just sitting here gulping this down reminds me of sitting in England gulping one down. Is English ale distinctive or what?

My label is different from the picture. A large white head that goes away quickly. Slightly red, but still looks an awful lot like a lager. A little hops and caramel in the aroma. An interesting strawberry finish. Otherwise, a fairly uneventful beer.

Pours a rich copper color, with long-lasting foam. Complex and intriguing hop aroma. Flavor is perfectly balanced between sweet maltiness and bitter hops. Dry, bitter aftertaste. A well-crafted ale, a bit pricey, but enjoyable.

Pale brown in color and very flavorful. Hoppy and fruity aroma. Nice white head when poured. Little malty but doesn't make it bitter. Very enjoyable.
