An Imperial India Pale Ale. Like our Drake Tail isn't hoppy enough, Mike has added more hops and malt and made the biggest IPA on the East Coast.

Bottle from CaptainCougar, shared w/ Bockyhorsey. Bottle 1811/2007. The pour featured a huge peachy amber colored head, great retention. The body was full orangey cloudy in color. The aroma was caramel, big caramel malts, citrus and pine. The flavor followed, alcohol pretty smooth, tons of malt, flavors bordering on tea bags and brown sugar, lots 'o malt! Big mouthfeel. This thing was pretty close to being a barleywine in character. Thanks for the bottle, Tom!

Thanks Immy: This is the first of the AleWerks Brewmasters Reserve that disappointed me. It calls itself an Imperial IPA, but there don’t seem to be enough hops here to justify that label. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good beer. There’s a bit of chill haze like the barleywine and american strong ale and there’s a fairly high viscosity. There’s less caramel and fruit in this than their was in the other two of the Brewmasters Reserve I’ve had so far, but it’s a fairly tasty beer. I had just hoped for more hoppiness.
