Meet X-114, our secret formula for hophead nirvana. Named for the experimental hop that came to be known as Citra, this aromatic IPA balances perfect proportions of big fruit and citrus flavor, with hints of peppery spice, caramel malt sweetness, and a bitter but smooth finish. Its one experiment that bears repeating. Often.

A good, reasonably priced IPA--definitely a winning combination as far as I am concerned. Enjoyed the better part of 2 six packs before this one disappeared. Pleasant, mild aroma and taste; almost like a light-IPA. I am really enjoying their rotator IPA series.

Very unique aroma... candied, floral perfume. Really gorgeous aroma. I consider myself a well-versed IPA drinker, and always appreciate something that differs from the trends and the copycats. This is a gorgeous aroma, with great head retention. "To No One Seeing You Fall" The sweetness nicely overtakes the hoppy bitterness. My favorite Widmer to date, and a great example of the possibilities of the IPA.

Wow. A really, really nice find from Widmer and easy on the pocketbook. Looking forward if they continue to promote hop forward beers that are affordable. The beer pours out a light golden orange body, clear with a bright fluffy white head, with some staying power. It shows off the hops with clear notes of both pine and grapefruits with some support from light caramel malts (very light). Flavor is spot on with a direct showcase of dank, piney hops and some honey/pears showing up to keep the sweetness around. Really a treat for hop lovers and a great showcase for hops. -

Aromas of orange, grapefruit, with some soft caramel and floral notes. Mouthfeel is slightly stickey, flavor has the same attributes as the aroma but they aren't very assertive. Overall a nice ipa that's worth a try.

Widmer is realy puting out some surprising stuff as of late. And for the price its fantastic. This is a well balanced though a slightly malty IPA. Worth a try for all hopheads. Not over the top at all. Even some guys that dont like heavy hops are enjoying this one. Hats off to Widmers!

maybe i'm missing something here, but i saw nothing to make me think this is a 90th percentile ipa or higher. avg ipa with all the great ones out there. some bitter orange and pine on the nose, well balanced with a little sweet malt in the flavor. nothing wrong with it, but nothing stands out either. surprising given how much i've liked citra hops. i may try again for the price, though.

12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is a lot of hops - piney, resiny, and a little dank.
The flavor is a little sweet malt with some fruit leading to a big hop finish - piney, resiny and a little dank and earthy. The mouthfeel is medium to full with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a very solid IPA. This reminded me a little of a milder, lower ABV Gubna. The hops remind me a little of toned down Summit. Widmer has been surprising me some with their recent beers. -

Comes out of the tap a clear, slightly dark amber with a thick off-white head that leaves some substantial lacing. Strong, hoppy aroma has an undertone of sour orange and grapefruit. Hoppy flavor has a nice balance of bitterness and fruity sweetness with an undertone of grapefruit and orange and just a whisper of honey. Edgy, strongly tingly mouthfeel leaves behind a lasting hoppy fizz.

Sampled on 6/6/2011. This IPA pours a medium to light orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is fruity, caramel and sweet, piney and grapefruity. A medium bodied India Pale Ale. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are piney and grapefruity. Decent carbonation. A touch on the sweet side, but balanced by a piney and slightly peppery finish. An interesting hop (whatever ‘X-114’ is), I think it has some serious potential. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
