Piper's Pale Ale was named in honour of Canadian war hero Piper James C. Richardson who was lost during the battle of the Somme during WWI. Awarded a Victoria Cross for his acts of bravery, we were inspired by his dedication and sacrifice to our country. Piper Richardson braved the trenches and began to play his bagpipes, inspiring the troops into battle with fury and determination. After assisting a wounded comrade back to safety and escorting enemy prisoners, he realized he had left his pipes behind and was lost in action while attempting to retrieve them. In Piper's memory, we salute his bravery and toast in his honour! Piper Richardson's bagpipes were retrieved from battle and are currently on display in the BC Parliament Building's foyer in Victoria, British Columbia.

Crystal clear and amber, Piper's dumped into a glass produces less than expected white head and pretty much goes average all the way. Aromas of sweet malts, slightly floral hops and maybe a metallic feel (not sure). Taste is pretty standard as well with decent malts on the sweet side, weak spicy hops and a touch of overripe orange fruit (not oranges though). Fairly smooth beer, medium bodied with a weak bitter finish.

A decent beer! Tastes like a rookie pale ale. I enjoyed it very much, I think this beer truly embodies all thsoe stupid words they use in macro commericals... "smooth, clean and crisp." But this is another young pale ale, still needs some work, but not too shabby at all!
