Dry and spicy, and chewy and malty all at the same time. Interesting brew to say the least. Pepper, hops, sweet English brown malt, dark fruits... Quite the combo.

Solid brew from Upright. One of the first I had on draught when I visited. Pours a murky reddish brown. Not much froth, but the lacing is definitely there. Aroma is bold. Dark fruits, alcohol and hops. Taste is well balanced, not too much bitterness, raisiny, quietly bitter and plummy.

Bottled (thanks after4ever!). Ruby colour, small off-white head. Aroma is raisins, alcohol, sweet grains and some mild notes of spices. Flavour is rye, malts, alcohol, grains and mild notes.

Definitely the darkest of the numbered beers at Upright, as this one is very dark brown with a creamy, tan head and good lacing. Aroma is still not too strong, with some mild sweet malt and dark fruit, maybe some oak. Very smooth with a bit of an alcohol kick to it. Medium body and finishing fairly dry without much of a hop presence. Caramel malt and earthy in the finish. As it warmed it began to have some cherry qualities come out. Not bad. Very good quality and unique.

Sampled on 3/19/2011. This rye ale pours a dark brown color from a 750ml bottle. Large sized beige foamy head with very long lasting retention and nice lacing. The aroma is malt, caramel, chocolate, fruity, tart and sweet. Medium bodied rye saison. The malts are caramel, chocolate and fruity. Some rye spiciness and some tartness with some cheery and oak as well. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice lively carbonation. AN interesting beer, there is a lot going on here, so sweetness at the start, with some tartness, spiciness and oakiness in the middle and some sweetness at the finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
