A strong lager. This is a dark gold colour with a 1" head that didn;t stick around to say hi. The aroma is mildly hoppy. The mouthfeel is crisp and medium-bodied. The taste....the taste is awesome. This beer is malty and grainy with an alcohol tinge that makes you thank the Lager gods!

Very dark golden in colour, medium sized quickly dissipating off-white coloured head, some spotty lacing. The aroma was pretty lackluster and uneventful, just some basic caramel malts, grains, minor alcohol, lightly sweet. The flavour was agian pretty boring, nothing really jumped out at me here. Typical European Strong Lager with the strong malt backbone, lots of grains, crisp but far from clean. Moderatly bitter but still thin mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a small amount of alcohol, light bitterness and lingering. There is nothing "Rebellion" about this. This was much better when Sleeman didn't own Upper Canada. Sleeman seems to have a knack at ruining breweries.

I bought this rebellion in a sixpack sampler from the UCBC.... 6 separate offerings in the pack.....a nice way to introduce drinkers to the company's varirty. The rebellion lager is a medium heavy lager made with spring (naturally soft) water and I think this gives it a unique character.(only Neustadt springs beer seems to share this characteristic) The water actually has a smoothing effect on a 6%+ AVB beer. Although it's 6% it is a mellow and soothing brew. Comes in a relatively non distict brown bottle. Pours a medium clear gold (must be some multiple filtering/fermenting in this craft brew) with a smallish white head that goes quickly to a "lace ring". Aromas of sweet barley malt, yeasts and slight spice. Starts out bold an fills the palate with a large hit of malt-yeast-hop gusto then finishes rather uniquely (for a 6% brew) with delicate hints of malt sweetness mixed with faint yeasty nut-like tastes. All in all a good brew....probably the best brew from this brewer.

Definitely one of the better Lagers I've tried to date. They advertise it as a strong beer with a bit of a bolder taste. For the most part I'd have to agree. It's not really that strong, but it tastes richer, bolder with more flavor that most other Lagers I've had. Musty yellow color, pretty thick head for a Lager and a nice amount of foamy lace on the glass. It looks a little lighter than it tastes. Overall a solid Lager.

After trying Upper Canada's light lager, I decided to try their strong lager, called "Rebellion". Poured a golden colour with highlights of orange. The head was nice, and slowly dissapeared, leaving a foamy lacing. The nose was grainy, malty and sweet. Tasted mildly the caramel with hints of fruits. Had a slight bitter aftertaste that was pleasant. I like to have this beer from time to time. Great session beer... except for the higher alcohol.

This was one good tasting lager. It was a pleasing mix of noticeable hop aroma, and tantilizing bitterness with a hearty malt flavor to balance out. Add a hefty 6% a/v and this tasty treat not only warms the taste buds, but everything south of them also. Quite good.
