Ruby appearance. Fruity nose. Rich, thick malty body. Stiff hop backbone. Thank you ma'am, may I have another?

This strong one from pfoxyjohn. Pours a murky dark tea brown with little head or lacing. A little carbonation. Aromas of sweet, sweet malts, raisins, more malts and a slightly smoky alcohol. Mouthfeel is thick! Taste is heavy sweet alcohol with sweet malts, ripe fruits and a nice finish. Thank you John for this one I've been cellaring for a while.

Another excellent offering from the guys at Tyranena. My first impressions on this beer was that is was an English style b-wine, as it was much sweeter than normal and the hops weren't agressive in the least (which is okay by my standards). The beer pours out a orangish/brown liquid, cloudy with almost no head to speak of (a thin layer of foam appeared and the zipped away just as quickly). The aroma that I could first pick up were the sweet caramel malts. A bit of oxidation was present, as well as some dried apricots and some alcohol. Mouthfeel was slick, a bit cloying but still enjoyable. Flavor had some odd flavors, but they were something I enjoyed. A good bit of smoke (like burning paper), some light tropical fruits and a heavy dose of sweet malts. This was really nice sipping barleywine. Smooth all the way thru, no discernable taste of alcohol. I liked this alot. Recommended!

Bottle from Monger: Poured a deep burgundy color ale with a small dirty white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet malt and light dry fruits is intriguing. Taste is dominated by some light dry fruits such as figs and plums with an interesting malt profile and light dry hoppy finish. Body is a bit light for the style with medium carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. I enjoyed this berley wine and appreciated a more malt orientated approach then an hoppy barley wine which I don’t always appreciate.

Pours a cloudy, hazey copper colour with a big white head. Aroma is strong of alcohol, barley (der) and grapes. Taste is pleasent, semi sweet with a long lasting finish.

This pours an opaque amber with a large off white head. For a barleywine, the flavor is very mild and finishes with a bite. There's a bit of maltiness and the aroma is feint.

Cloudy copper color with a brief tan bubbly head. Aroma of sweet malt and fruit. Full and thick on the palate; warm, smooth flavor of rich malt with fruit and honey tones; pronounced bittersweet finish. A nicely balanced, well-crafted barleywine. BTW, used this instead of tea for soaking the raisins and currants for an Irish Barm Brack, baked as my contribution to the Tyranena St. Patty's Day Hop Luck -- excellent (IMHO)! Recipe, anyone?

I like this one a LOT more than Bell's. Hazy dark reddish-brown pour with a thin head, slight lacing. Much smoother, balanced flavor, and a nicely hopped finish. Tyranena does well again!
