The beer pours a nice reddish-brown, lots of floaties in the mix. The head is a light tan color, very rocky, and maybe an inch thick. Lacing is non-existent. The aroma is quite sweet with notes of brown sugar, molasses, and plums balanced by herbal hops, burnt wood, and yeast. Mouthfeel is average. Flavor is on the sweet side of the spectrum with hints of liquid sugar

Comes out of the tap an opaque mahogany, thin pale buff head. Aroma has caramel, malty and subtle horehound notes. Flavor teases the palate with caramel, grape and malt notes - but no hint of he alcohol bite, so beware! Thick, smooth texture rounds out a great barley wine. I myself am immortal - except the "T" is silent.

Thanks. Phenomenal beer. Vanilla, caramel and raisen in the nose with a similar flavor. Light peat as well made it really interesting. It grew more complex as it warmed in the glass. Dogfish Head sets a high standard from what I've seen/tasted of their beers.

Another DFH with lots of flavor.Appearance nothing to write home about.Brewers description is right on.Could do without the smoked flavor. But if we eliminate all flavor from beer we end up with Coors Light.Good beer but some days I just want to chug.

A bright amber colored beer with a small, off white soapy head. Not much hang time. Settles into a big ringlet, though. I get a lot of juniper, alcohol presence and sweet smoky malt. Medium bodied and some smoothness.

Smokey! Pours reddish brown with a low low white head ringlet. Aroma is peat and smoke along with some floral, flavor has some oak and the vanilla is coming through. Not noticing the alcohol really. Sticky sweet finish makes this a great after dinner drink.

Great play on words, and I hope that I too can be immortal. A light copper coloured pour, slightly hazy, with a small off-white coloured head. Sweet malt, alcohol, and smoke are the fist smells, followed by floral scents. The flavour is very sweet with the alcohol very prevalent, yet not bothersome.

This is a REALLY good DFH beer. It smells of peat, smoke, and juniper. I was a tad intimidated by this beer based on the alcohol content. While I LOVE DFH - their beers are often a tad boozy at the higher abv's - not this one. This beer is smooth and earthy tasting. Warming in the chest but not hot in the mouth. The beer coats and is heavy - the taste is a bit barleywineish; however, it is a beer of its own classification. The taste is malt, maple, vanilla, and peat. I love this one!

12 oz bottle into a goblet. Poured deep mahogany with a large two-finger off-white head. Lacing is there but light. Heavy carbonation is clearly visible. Nose is figs, dates, raisins and some alcohol. Taste is very sweet - maple, vanilla, maple and some woodiness, spice, and smoke. Finish tempers the sweetness, thank goodness, or it would be overbearing. No real alcohol burn commensurate with 11%. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter than I expected. All-in-all a decent offering and one I will retry for sure.

A thick, sweet malty aroma produces some subtle hints of brown sugar and vanilla as well as a not so subtle hint of real maple syrup. Dark chestnut/amber color coupled by a thin off white head and minor lacing. A hearty beast that’s filling and warms the insides. Very smooth with a creamy thickness. Malted like a fine English Barleywine with a hefty dose of maple. Fruity raisin and plums followed by a woody taste. Bread and bran cereal can also be detected. Wonderful sipping beer.
