Courtesy of TampaPourHouse. It pours up amber with off white head. The aroma is super sweet with molasses, prunes and brown sugar. Wow, the taste might even be sweeter than the nose was hinting at with in your face sugary sweet malts, molasses, some sugar stewed prunes and brown sugar. It seems this could use a touch of balance.

I’ve been waitin a while to taste something from Troegs. Actually I’ve been patiently anticipating the dream wheat or the mad elf ale. I saw this for $2 a bottle so I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve been avoiding this one because I thought it had a personna of the horned devil on the front. However, upon closer inspection, it is some kind of cross between an old bearded muscleman and one of those rams that smash heads up on a mountain. Initial flavor is good but the finish has a slight amount of bitter hops that lasts for a while after swallowing. Pretty good stuff. Not yer typical pale yellow american beer and extremely better than an IPA or dry stout. It hides the alchohol content rather well.

Beautiful bright red, amber color.Minimal tan head, some laceing.Fresh ground grain nose with some hop spiceyness also.Med/full bodied, sweet up front.Good clean malty, bready flavors. Some hop bitterness in the medium sweet finish. The 8.2% alc. is well hidden.Good drinkin double bock!

No nose, yes no nose! Vigorous pour produces very little head with near zero retention. True deep ruby body, off-white skim coat.Mouth is medium to light, a bit under-carbonated. Flavor is NOT bold, subtle ripe fruit, roasted grains, toffee, coffee, maybe some banana. Sweet cotton candy finish. I wonder if this is a bad bottle, the carbonation is just soooo off. The flavor profile is OK to good, the alcohol ois properly masked for the style.

My first Troegs experience, and a satisfying brew with old world trappist like quality's, made right here in the U.S.; very light cap, some laceing, smooth, fuity, carmelly, good aftertaste. Will drink again if available.

Holy mackerel this is a fine beer for being a doublebock that is not pitch black. It smelled like a cherry Pop Tart. It has a very thick mouthfeel. It pours without a head and just a touch of zing on the back of the tongue.

When you come from Wisconsin you expect a lot from a German style beer. This looked and smelled the part but missed the mark on flavor and mouthfeel. Really not enough of a bock at all IMO,its a bigger beer, just not true to style.

An enojoyable brew from Troeg's. The deep coloring, almost maroon, was very unique and beautiful to look at. The aroma had a slight hint of chocolate. This went down very smoothly with a hint of a sweet aftertaste. I found it very refreshing and fun.....it went well with the brisket sandwich that I had.
