Black Tree Dark Ale was created in support of the BC Fire ReLeaf Fund. The fund was created by Tree Canada Foundation, with the goal to restore trees that were destroyed in the 2003 and now 2009 Okanagan wildfires. Each bottle sold represents 1 new tree planted in the Okanagan. We hope you enjoy this specialty blend of our Pale Ale and Porter...thanks for you support and Cheers!

Had at the brewery, but did not review at that time. The bottle I am reviewing is nearly a year and a half old, but well stored. A simple beer, seems a bit watery, thin, malts, dark, bit of burnt grain, thin thin thin carmel. Touch of bittering. Barely above average. This beer may have been brewed near the start of Trees climbing quantity and reduced quality.

From BCLDB 39th & Cambie. Body was a clear, dark brown beneath a skimpy ivory head. Aroma was VERY malty, as was the taste. Decent mouthfeel and finish. Only slightly above average, being a blend of two other average beers. Beer and picture added to BP 14Jan2010.

This is a beer for a good cause...reforestation. And for a charity beer, it's not bad. Had it at a friend's house after he brought back a case from out west. It's a golden red, clear, with a creamy head. The aroma is dark malt, some hops, and some caramel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, and medium carbonation. The flavour is reminiscent of an English Pale Ale more than a porter with a less roasted malt profile than I would have expected.
