Trafalgar’s version of this brown ale is reminiscent of the old style of ale brewing. Brewed as an “anytime ale” this beer is smooth and refreshing. Willamette hops are used to provide a subtle background to the dominant grain flavors of the unique blend of four malts. It is bes accompanied by rich full flavored dishes.

The beer poured a beautiful translucent dark red colour with a very thin white head that dissipates quite quickly. The aroma was roasted malt, and some nutty hints. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with high carbonation. The flavour was all over the place, there was roasted malt, some soapy sourness, and a little hint of bitterness.

Bomber from the LCBO. Pours a dark copper colour with an average off-white head that has moderate retention and does not have much lacing. The nose is quite grainy with the roasted barley and notes of nuts and toffee. Smooth and velvet mouthfeel. Same as the aromas for the taste, but much tamer. Nutty, with the roasted malt in the aftertaste. Very lightly carbonated with one tiny bubble coming up from time to time. Not sure if this one is better as I have cellared it, or if it just got better recently. Better than most other from this brewery and a decent session brew.

Ok, so this isn't an Irish ale... more like a nut brown. Pours out a clear medium brown with a rather large foamy tan head that simmers down to a cover leaving some mess along the way. Dry biscuit malts, sweeter caramel, faint dusty fruits, nuts and weak weak coffeeness. The taste is nuts and toffee for the immediate impression, random fruits of the non bright citrus family, biscuit, cardboard, gets more sour on the back end as I near the bottom of my glass. Decent bitter levels but the bitterness is attached to the wrong flavours for the style. Not all that smooth for some reason, sort of an oily middle, lengthy dry bitter finish.

This isn't an Irish ale in the sense that it is made in small town Canada. It is clear, red, and the head is minimal at best. The aroma is slightly on the sour side, with nuts and hops. The flavour is alright, some nutty malt and a bitter finish.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown color ale with an average foamy head with some average retention and no lacing. Aroma of grainy malt with no discernable hops and some dry malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some unrefined grain notes with a somewhat dry finish. Body is a bit thin but with some average carbonation. Not as bad as some other beers form this brewery but too plain and boring for my taste buds.

Copper body with little cap. Slightly sour aroma with minor nut and malt notes. Watery mouthfeel. Flavour profile starts watery and slightly sour, moves to a tasty but mild malt body and finishes with an odd bitter-sour taste. Easy drinking, but the overt mildness does it in.

Bottle from LCBO- Root beer pour with a thick and foamy, albeit short lived mocha head. Mildly roasted nutty aroma with some faint malts and beef broth. Slightly roasty sweet nut and malt flavour. Mildly hopped with some bitterness. Finish is actually pretty tasty if you can get past how watery it is.

650 ML bomber. A hard pour revealed a clear copper-brown beer with virtually no head and weak carbonation. Aromas of musty fruit sweetness and graininess slight sour tones. Fair start with some burnt toffee sweetness, some roasty malts finishes abruptly with the fuggles hops coming through and a slight smokey woody bready taste. Mild sweetish and musty... The lack of carbonation gives the impression of a watery mouth feel..that’s too bad because this brew has potential but just dosen’t deliver...nice taste, very drinkable but possibly too overly mild and understated to reveal the craft in its recipe...a nice ale not a great one> I like this ale but I don't know why.
