This German-style black lager has a rich aroma of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and toasted malt, medium-full body, and a roasty yet smooth finish. Bronze medalist at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival. Our brewer formulated this recipe during his homebrewing days.

Not really a schwartzbeir by any stretch of the term, it's a murky dirty water dark brown color with sufficient roast aroma and flavor to knock it out of the style. Flavor is really good, no knock on that, just not right for the style. Mouthfeel was too fizzy as well, this style should be much more velvety and smooth.

Good black color, sharp biack flavor and color, but palettable. Good for someone who doesn't want too strong of a black beer. Small head. More than enough in this fair pint.

On tap @ The Old Fashion in Madison, with PfoxyJohn and phishpond. Thin black pour, ample tight tannish head, great lacing. Roasted malts, wee bit of coffee and cocoa, light molasses, roasted nuts in the aroma and the rich flavor. Tasty little jewel. Thank Travis for the recommendation!

Could only have a sampler size of this, along with three others, due to the distance I had to drive afterwards, and I'm determined to return to GB this summer and take a room so I can drink my fill! This was nearly stout-black in the glass, with an ivory head and great retention and lacing. A chocolatey-coffee aroma, and very very tasty, with a hint of bubble gum along with the roasted malts. A lightish mouthfeel, and a smoothly satisfying finish. At a manageable 5.0 ABV, an ideal session beer, and just an excellent American entry in the Schwarzbier category.

This one had a strong coffee aroma, whih usually turns me off of a beer. It poured a dark black color with a weak tan head and a thin mouthfeel. It had a malty coffee flavor with a smooth finish.

An excellent summer time brew. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a reddish hue. Head was large and creamy. Aroma was noticeably nutty. Taste was soft and creamy with hints of milk chocolate and almonds.
