Pours a luscious coffee brown that lets in a peek of caramel daylight at the bottom and has a thick, if not overly persistent, tan head. Roast malt has a strong overtone of roast quality coffee and a hint of molasses. Hops and a snip of spice come through in the delightful roast coffee flavor - this is very like a "black" IPA. I love hoppy beers and dark beers, so this is indeed a good three-way marriage! Texture lacks firmness and fizz; but it leaves a nice finish of quality coffee, roast malt, and woody hops. Java this sutra on your tongue!

Welllllll. The nose is great, loaded with coffee. Looks a bit thin with no real head to speak of. Mouth is a bit thin. Flavor is good, perhaps I was expecting too much? Good, not great.
