The Duck-Rabbit Rabid Duck Russian Imperial Stout

Every now and then you run into that IPS that you label as "Soy-sauce beer". This is one of those occasions. Aroma is soy sauce. Flavor leans towards the sweet side, but offset by some burnt sugar and other dark/bitter chocolate notes. Not the best balance though. Alcohol not hidden that well. Tastes decent, but based on the style it is below average.

Bottle from some one stop gas station shop in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. Best by March 09 notch. Rounded pint glass. Inky black body. Tall, thin, tan head. Smells of prunes, char, & some solid, iron-y roasted malt. Tastes a little worse off. An initial malt ball sweetness lends way to cigarettes/ash, old breakfast cereal, & lacquerish alcohol. Nearly flat. Quite thick & difficult. Good stuff.

Thick, dark brown body with a thin yet lasting light brown head and some heavy set lacing. Roasted nutty aroma with a dry toast quality. Easily detectable chocolate and coffee notes rounded out a very good aroma. Flavor in line with the aroma but more chocolaty and a bit less nutty. Some sweet dark fruit notes to boot. Very enjoyable.

One 5 oz sample of a 6 beer sampler at 3 son’s in Wexford, nice place. Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Supposedly by the DR owner. Smell is rather fruity and volatile. Appearance is very appealing and stacks up with the looks of any attractive brew. Coal black with a choco mousse head. Head fades after a while. Strong bitter and burned alky first taste impact. Rude and crude, it is what it is; a good on style impy stout. In yer face and burns a little when you swallow. A warm glow follows the brew into you hatch. Long bitter black burned wood & alky linger on the finish. DR rabid S5L5F1T3O6

I have looked long and hard for this brew and finally found it in one of my favorite pizza places in my old college town. The aroma is nice and pleasant with some roasted malt overtones as well as some java and dark chocolate notes and is very inviting. The appearance is a jet-black to charcoal in color but a nice and rich mahogany-chestnut when held to the light with a nice head on top that is full and robust and a light-brown in color that diminishes to a nice lacing that coats the glass well. The mouthfeel is very full-bodied and very robust with tremendous malty complexity as well as some nice bitter balance with a palate that is syrupy and almost chewy and coats very nicely and is sticky. The flavor is of dark chocolate and roasted malts with nice java and coffee overtones with an aftertaste that is bitter that showcases the dry-hopped combination and is very full with a finish that is nice and bitter as well as chocolatey with hints of coffee

This comes out of the tap a rich, opaque sable with a dark tan head. Aroma is strong, like smoky or roast coffee with a hint of sweet chocolate. The rich, smoky, coffee-ish flavor has an undertone of chocolate and a whisper of sweetness. This delightfully smooth stout fairly dances on the tongue and is a joy to drink.

Dark brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is chocolate, sourness and some roasted malts. Flavour is roasted malts along with acidic coffee, some alcohol and really dark chocolate. Sourish aftertaste.

A dark black appearance with a beige head. A coffee, chocolate, and charcoal aroma. This is a very sweet impy stout exhibiting chocolate, molasses, coffee, and raisins. A very nice beer indeed!

Yet another excellent beer from the people at Duck-Rabbit. A roasty aroma, with a strong coffee profile, light smoke, subtle fruits and chocolate. Appearance was just black, smallish dark tan head. Mouthfeel was a bit of a let down. It just didn't have that chewyness that I enjoy. Flavor was a chocolate-coffee combo with a light touch of smoke and some hops. Good stuff.

This Imperial Stout pours a eclipse black color form a 12oz bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty. A medium bodied Imperial Stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. Hops are earthy. There is a touch of soy sauce and smoke here as well as the chocolate and roasty malts. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
