Little Brother is a rich and malty ale. A bit of roastiness, toffee, candy and chocolate come through as it warms. A smaller batch of Little Brother was aged in a Heaven Hill Bourbon barrel and blended back in for a touch of Bourbon. Little Brother is a pleasant and satisfying cold weather warmer.

Sampled from magnum bottle thanks to Travis. Pours clear brown with a lasting tan head and remarkable lacing. Lots of raisin and vanilla in the nose. The barrels do not overwhelm the flavor as is common with many beers aged in similar manner. Love the effervescence. Makes the 10% ale refreshing. Well done!

Bottle from Phishpond and my trip to Portland in Feb - been waiting to share this puppy. Hootenanny is the perfect opportunity to share while celebrating The Commons two Silver Medals at GABF 2013. Light clear tea brown pour, tight short head, bit of lacing. Warming aromas and initial flavors of toffee, oaken vanilla, very light bourbon, hint of raisins, some chocolates, booze, warmth and goodness. Helluva a beer, nicely warming, more of everything as it warms up. Great one to share as a whole bottle to myself would cause a long nap... Thank you Travis for turning me one to all of The Commons beers and that great little brewery and thanks for this bottle - Epic!

Huge thanks to slowrunner77 for this special brew. Clear brown pour with unyielding carbonation. Strong banana and clove forward aroma and a clean, crisp mouthfeel. Sweet up front - candy sugar - with faint barrel notes of vanilla and oak. The finish is slightly toward the alcohol along with raisin and dates. The complexity is strong with this one, and I loved it.

Definitely think this is partially barreled. Light fruit, wood and booze from the barrels. Light vanilla. Covers up a little of the complexity of the base beer, though. Not sure, without getting to try them at the same time, which I like better.
