Big review night with the local Brew Crew: 18 different beers with barbecue, delicious desserts, and good company. Orange-brown and clear, fine but not very dense head. Aroma is something like a tart Scottish ale, orangey and boozy. (I am beginning to think that all beers smell boozy to me now.) I expected, and wanted, this beer to taste more tart than it does. As it is, it's a kind, smooth bitter with more of that orange flavor about it. I spent too long trying to think what the font reminded me of: Art Nouveau.

I am a sucker for just about any rye beer, so figured what the heck. As I read the label a bit closer I realized this was Danish-inspired and, better yet, based on their Julebryg-style brews. I spent a good bit of time in Copenhagen and learned to love their Easter and Christmas styles. Heavy dark coloring and head - robust head. Rich, bready aroma and big fruit in the nose. Cherry notes in the flavor, a nice muddle of malt, fruit and a hint of spices - reminded me of a fruitcake. Perhaps it was the rye, perhaps it was the sentiment for time spent in Copenhagen, but I loved this beer and will definitely keep buying. Glad to see it's a year round item.

Review started in Jeff’s living room when I thought he was upstairs but it turns out he wasn’t even at home, so I sat watching Jackass for half an hour drinking a beer in a house I apparently just broke into. Dark chocolaty brown with some sediment and complete with a tall brown cap that lingers to long and leaves roapy lacing. The aroma is nice….. very nutty, a pleasant and unexpected ginger, caramel, Danish style Rye beard, and a cherry to almost plumb. The taste is so much better than I was expecting, very different but in a good way brew. Heavy rye, walnuts, the same ginger as the aroma, never really tasted any coffee but it seems like it’s there but it’s not just like you walk into a room after some farted but there gone so you’re not sure if anyone was actually there…….. the faintest hints of cherry. Easy drinking high quality stuff this is, probably one the best beers my mom has ever randomly brought back for me.

Dry and grainy with a medium body. One of the biggest rye influenced beers I've sampled so far. Spicy with multi-grain bread, a touch of butterscotch and molasses. Mottled brown body, medium sized head that sticks around as well as lots of lacing.

Had this a couple of times in the past year, time for a review i guess .. Pours a dark tan amber .. great foam head, very good lacing too .. . interesting use of spices, rye bread, cooking chocolate, and mud .. . fizzy mouthfeel .. . an ok brew but a bit out there .. . .
Do we really have to worry about children wandering into pork plants and climbing onto the kill line?

Pours a slightly hazy warm brown with a fairly thick, if not too persistent, pale tan head. Spicy aroma is malty and has hints of caramel and cinnamon. Malty flavor has nutty, caramel and cinnamon hints and a bit of an alcohol nip. Texture is silky smooth with a nice, rough tingle. A good lip-smacking ale.

i don't know what the difference was in my bottle (i see 6-7's for feel) but the mf was perfect. luxurious. velvety. as for the rest it was a nice beer. different. muddy brown. smells of doughy malts and rye, with an odd but appealing flavor much the same. a decent beer made quite good by the blend of flavor and feel.

Pretty random beer that's made its way into Madison. Straight from the placenta! Pretty ok brew. good but maybe i wasn't digging it because it seems out of season. either way, not as hearty and acidic as i wouldve appreciated. Biscuity, malty and smokey nice however, dark brown, big beige head. and semi tart near the finish.

Spicy and fruity, Rugbrod has a big malty presence. The flavors are richer than the abv would indicate, which is always good. The yeast notes are a lot more Belgian than I was expecting. It reminds me of a smallish quad. Interesting sour finish to a mouthful of dark stone fruits and spicy malt. The beer is a bit too carbonated for me, but it looks very nice and the carbonation fades with time.

Interesting. Pours a deep Amber with a serious head. WOW, this has some SERIOUS carbonation. Definitely tart and chocolate. Nice! I like it alot.
