Brewed to celebrate SweetWater’s 21st anniversary, this sour, Belgian-style brown ale from the Woodlands Project was frermented with acetobacter, lactobacillus, pediococcus, saccharomyces and brettanomyces, and aged in American oak foeders with cherries. At 7.9-percent AbV, it’s tart in a sour cherry sort of way, with fruity, wine-like esters in the nose, a mild malt character, and little in the way of carbonation or hop bitterness. It will be interesting to see how it develops after a year or two in the bottle.

Pours translucent cola with a thick but vanishing frothy beige head. Aroma presents tart and slightly sweet dark fruit plus hints of toasted malt and brown sugar. Flavor offers tart dark fruit, toasted malt and a hint of molasses. Molasses? Mouthfeel features fair body and jazzy fizz. Happy Anniversary, Sweetwater - and may you celebrate many more!
