The Stone 08.08.08 Vertical Epic Ale is a Strong Golden Belgian style ale highly hopped with American hops (Ahtanum, Amarillo and Simcoe). The beer pours pale golden with a thick and creamy white head of foam. The aroma is full of depth: nuances of pepper, clove, and banana from the Belgian yeast strain, and the resiny citrus notes from the American hops blend together nicely to provide a complex aromatic character. The taste is spicy, hoppy and fruity, with a very dry and a pleasant bitter end. The bitterness lingers nicely, and provides a refreshing finish!

Rated the original release in July 2009. Pours clear gold with thin white head. The aroma is a bit spicy hops to start then apple and yeast toward the end of the draw. The taste begins with lots of apples and apricots. It then gets a bit yeasty and spicy to midway with lingering apple notes into the finish. It ends a bit dry and refreshing.

Encore version. Pours clear amber with a thick and frothy, if not too long-lasting, eggshell head. Aroma presents tempting notes of banana, butterscotch, citrus, yeast and malt. Flavor is even better, adding some serious hops to the mix and ramping up the fruity tones. Mouthfeel features good body and fizz. Get vertical, and happy that they re-issued this one.

Shared with slimjim and pfoxyjohn in another wonderful evening of beermaking and slightly over-imbibing. I think the nose has lost something as it was a 5 year old bottle, but u could still tell it was all west coast hops. The flavor was great, sweet Belgian with a big spiced hop finish. May not be what it started out as but it became was worth waiting for.

Tried this as part of a beer tasting last week. Poured a hazy gold with white head and visable lacing. It wasn't as high ABV as I thought it would be which was a nice surprise. Lots of aromas and flavors. The strongest being a overall sweetness with lemon or orange notes. I wouldn't want a pint of this but a snifter was quite enjoyable.

Pours out in a slightly hazy golden color with a small white foam. Sweet, yeast, quite sugary aroma of oranges, red apples and apricots with notes of cumin and cinnamon. Full-bodied with a strong but still with unrefined and raw sugary flavours of candied oranges, soap and asprcots. Spicy finish of cinnamon with notes of flowers, tangerine and alcohol. I’m not overly impressed. A tad better than the 070707.

Shared a bottle of this with my older brother. Don’t know why it took me this long to get the rating on here, but now I have. Aroma is extremely floral, spicy with a nice kick of fruity esters, tropical frutis. Flavor has a great hop profile, solid malt backbone, vanilla and cloves. Long bitter finish. I should be able to put together a nice veritcal in 2013.

This is probably the most complex beer that I've been able to tell what the complexities where. Partly a hop heavy IPA type flavor and mouthfeel, yet a spicy (coriander?) malty tastes as well. Very good. Obviously I couldn't wait 'til 12.12.12.

This beer poured with an orange-golden body topped off by a medium sized light khaki colored head that left little lace. Aroma is full of light fruits and spicy hops. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly oily. Flavor is pear, green apple, mild hops and spices.

One of the better Verticals. Pour was a nice light cloudy golden color. Arom was tons of light fruits, pears floral hops. Flavor was much the same. Very good mouthfeel was a little off to dry for me.
