During the heyday of the British Empire, India Pale Ale was born as a strong pale ale brewed especially to endure the rigors of the long journey to the colonies. In order to guard against spoilage, I.P.A. was brewed with a high alcohol content and with liberal amounts of hops, which act as a natural preservative. This ale's golden amber colour only hints at its full-bodied flavour. Its sumptuous maltiness is tempered by a goodly amount of bitterness and a mouth-filling hop flavour. In order to finish our I.P.A. with a truly fresh hop bouquet, we dry hop this ale in the serving tank with both East Kent Goldings and Mount Hood hops.

Finally got a pint of the IPA.. will it live up to rival DIX? Nope! Light amber brew with a medium sized white cap. Boring aroma with some citrus and floral notes - nothing that makes the mouth water, no complexity. Why is there a fishy note on the taste? Not to sure about that. Boring and plain IPA. Decent bitterness but I like a hell of a lot more, wood, alcohol, dry, some candy as well. DIX KILLS THIS.

Stepped out for a beer while last in Vancouver, very busy at Steamworks, so just had a seat at the bar. Slightly hazed, orange copper color with short and dense head that left lots of lace. Has a leafy / floral hop smell with some citrus. Hoppy flavor, pine resin with grapefruit hop finish. Some malt, but not really enough to balance. Dry, slightly acid aftertaste. Medium body, low carbonation, about as expected. Lots of bitterness and hops, but not much depth. Good, but there are better examples.
